Not sure if it was sold for one day or not (that sounds more like an urban legend). But it was pulled and repasted rather quickly, that much is true. That cover is considered the holy grail of Beatles album covers. I've only ever seen it once in person and it was going for over $500 at the time (that was around 1982).

The story is far more fascinating than the actual picture. It was the Beatles way of sending a message to Capital Records about chopping up their albums to make additional albums - mainly Rubber Soul and Revolver which bore little resemblance to thier original UK counterparts. Capitol butchered those two albums to make "Yesterday and Today" and added an extra track or two.

      But seriously:
My favorite artist is Mark Dancey. He did a bunch of early Sub Pop album covers, Soundgarden's Bad Motor Finger cover and was behind Motorbooty magazine in the early 90's. I own a few originals from his band, Big Chief...

My mother has the Herb Albert Whipped Cream album. I must have stared a hole in it growing up. Funny thing is I don't think I've ever actually listened to it, and I like Herb Albert.

Kempo...man, I used to have the older Queen vinyl albums, I gave them away after I switched to CDs, man, I wanna cry now, lol.

YES, 'News of the World' is my favorite album cover as well, I always loved that robot art from artist Frank Kelly Freas (taken from a cover of 1953s Astounding Science Fiction)...I love it so much in fact that I almost got a tattoo based on it...but have not done it yet.

I'm glad I found a fellow Queen fan...they are my favorite band in the world by miles and miles.

Here's little facts on how popular Queen is, especially in England:

As of 2005, according to The Guinness Book of World Records, Queen albums have spent a total of 1,322 weeks or twenty-seven years on the United Kingdom album charts; more time than any other musical act including The Beatles and Elvis Presley. Also in 2005, with the release of their live album with Paul Rodgers, Queen moved into third place on the list of acts with the most aggregate time spent on the British record charts. In 2006, the Greatest Hits album was found to be the United Kingdom's all-time best selling album, with sales upwards of 5,407,587 copies, over 604,295 more copies than its nearest competitor, The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Their Greatest Hits II album came in seventh with sales upwards of 3,631,321 copies.

One of rock's most successful, influential and popular acts, the band have released a total of eighteen number one albums, eighteen number one singles, and ten number one DVDs worldwide making them one of the world's best-selling music artists. They have sold over 300 million albums worldwide including 32.5 million albums in the United States alone as of 2004. The band are also the only group in which every member has composed more than one chart-topping single

Hector, I LOVE QUEEN...Really I Do. They were the first band I ever saw play live in concert....but I'm gonna have to ask you to reveal your source on this one. 18 #1 albums AND singles is a bit of a stretch.

We Are the Champions ("We Will Rock You" did NOT Chart) - Pos #4

Another One Bites the Dust #7
                    Flash Theme #10
                    Under Pressure w/David Bowie #1
                    Radio GaGa #2
I Want to Break Free #3
                    It's A Hard Life #6
                    One Vision #7
                    A Kind of Magic #3
                    I Want It All #3
                    Breakthru #7

Those are the facts based on Billboard (which is THE main source in the music world). Unless you are counting #1's in every possible country in the world I think your source is a little inaccurate.
