Wow. Tough question. There were so many great albums, from Meat Loaf to Molly Hatchet to Kiss. But even still there other albums that transcended the artform by actually having a function. For instance take a true classic album: Alice Cooper's "From the Inside".

Besides showing this wild shot of Alice Cooper, the cover also contained two doors to a sanitarium which you could physically open. If you look closely you can see there are flaps and a faint image of a door blended in with Cooper's face. If you could look closer you would see the inmates reflected in his eyes. When you opened it you saw this...

You go into the sanitarium. Each figure represents a song and the door near the top left center opens and there sits Alice Cooper in a straight jacket while he sits in the "Quiet Room" (classic song on the album). The back of the album also has doors which open to reveal Alice Cooper and the inmates busting out. One of the classic 70's albums.

Funny this topic comes up today. I've been going through my aunt's old LP's from the late 60's to the mid 80's Funny how some have such great covers then the next has something that looks like a 5 year old put together

And what was up with ELO and having little cardboard cutouts of UFO's ... did people really put those together and display them ???? lol

Supposedly the model got scarred because of the honey that was poured all over her body...but that's just an urban legend.
