^The problem with SR was not Routh, the production values, or even Singer's (good) intentions. It was the screenplay & that kid...

I loved the casting of SR. The real stinker with Superman films is, it's all Lex, Lex, Lex--even in the Reeve series, you can see where they could have easily used Brainiac or Bizarro in later sequels.

Regarding the Nolan trilogy: I do not think time will be kind to this version. The films and performances certainly do not hold up to repeat viewing for me. I like Batman and want to like these films, but they just don't engage me. They seem bloated & soulless.
WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.

I've always liked Superman Returns, though on my second vfiewing I liked it a little less. There isn't enough action, though the shuttle scene is spectacular.

if you watched the massive deleted scenes fro superman IV - you will see thet did use Bizzaro. the makers got greedy and thought on a low budget they could milk 2 movies out of it.

I just recently watched Dark Knight Rises... I hesitate to say I "hated it" in my best In Living Color impersonation, because I didn't feel that strongly about the movie. It was just there. It was needlessly long, lacking absolutely ANYTHING in the film that had anything to do with Batman and as the third movie to whatever franchise this came from, it was okay. But it wasn't Batman.

Bane was a completely pointless character, devoid of any emotion, depth or purpose. His voice was laugh out loud terrible. And sadly, his voice wasn't even the worst. Bale's Batman voice makes me laugh every time I hear it. It just keeps getting worse and worse. It's like he's TRYING to sound absolutely ridiculous. And the whole "he's trying to disguise his voice so nobody knows he's Bruce Wayne, derp derp" arguments hold no water, because practically everyone in Gotham (and other parts of the world) know Bruce Wayne is Batman in this film. Also, he talks that way when he's alone, talking to himself. So yeah, it's just stupid and unnecessary.

There were a bajillion other things that I could poke holes in too, but it's not worth it. It's just a completely average or perhaps slightly below average movie that if you retitled it to anything else, nobody would have ever seen. Batman was the draw, even if the movie didn't really deliver any Batman moments.

I find that all the Nolan movies are greatly overrated and have none of the color that makes Batman interesting. I think Begins is still his best movie in the franchise. Honestly, I sort of feel like they're that Superman movie they pitched years ago, where he doesn't fly, doesn't have a cape, etc, etc. You know, where they take away everything that makes Superman into Superman... Nolan's movies feel like Batman without anything that makes him Batman. It feels like they did that, but to the whole Batman universe. Which is a real crime, given that Batman is such a fun universe to inhabit.

As for Superman Returns. I liked it a lot and I think, aside from a lack of a giant robot or something for Supes to smash, it was well on it's way to being a darn fine reboot to the franchise whilst still connecting it to the old Superman films. But Superbaby ruined it. I said it elsewhere on these forums, but I honestly think had the whole Superbaby subplot not been included, that movie would have been a huge hit. Perhaps not financially because it was already a couple hundred million in the hole, but in the fans eyes, with perhaps would have translated to more box office dollars. But all the nerds turned on it when Superbaby showed up and rightfully so. Everything up until then though, was pretty solid.

I could have easily seen several sequels where the action kicked in and we saw Superman doing some epic battles with big baddies and nearly insurmountable odds. I don't think Luthor is the problem, it's just that nobody ever thinks big enough. Luthor should be there, but Superman needs to fight some massive foes that show off his incredible powers as well.

Unfortunately, I don't know if Man of Steel will think big enough either. It's sort of looking like Nolan's drab junk that he put into Batman, but perhaps on a lesser scale. Shame too, as Snyder typically creates a pretty colorful picture. I think Nolan has more influence on this movie, from what I've seen, than Snyder does. But I could be wrong, only time will tell on that one. I'm gonna give it a shot.

Beating my dead horse here: Returns is a good movie. But it was a horrible franchise reboot film. Too mopey and introspective, and the Super-Kid just painted them in too much of a corner. But I like the film on it's own.

Didn't like it at all. One of the worst Super Hero movies I've ever seen IMO.

All I can say is this...Dark Knight Rises is the first superhero movie EVER that I didn't pick up on DVD the day it came out.
Saw it once, don't need to ever see it again. I NEVER, EVER thought I'd say that about any superhero movie, let alone a Batman movie.
Even my wife was mind-boggled by that.

I kinda like Bane. As for his voice, I do not know much about the character (I'm a Silver Age/early Bronze Age fan), but wasn't that how he was in the books? Really refined and intellectual in spite of his appearance?

True be told, I think some things work in live action and others do not. I know people love these films for the realism, but I think that's what hurts them. Once you do comic material with too much realism, it becomes a joke. The interrogation scene in Dark Knight was comedy too me. It looked like a comedic parody of a serious film. I think Comic films have to have a bit of camp and not take themselves so seriously.

Some of these films look terrible. Saw the trailer for Captain America. No thanks!

Some might be offended, but I do not care for Superman movies as I am not that big of a fan. Too clean cut for me.

I always thought that the they were trying to do Superboy (maybe for a spin-off), except make him Superman's son, instead of just created from his DNA by the government.

I thought there were flaws in the Dark Knight Rises, but not enough to hate it as much as everyone here.

My two major issues: I loved Bane, but hated the way he died and was dissapointed with how little screen time Batman got and how much Bruce Wayne got

The only part that bugged me was the police charging Bane's army (no way they'd do that )>

But other than that, I quite liked it and found it a satisying conclusion to the trilogy. And I actually liked the fact that the whole thing was mapped out as a trilogy with a beginning, middle, and end - with threads and themes throughout.
