I always wondered if March of the Wooden Soldiers is actually counted as a Christmas movie ?

I'd count it as one.
Miracle on 34th Street is a great film. After I get worn out with football on Thanksgiving, I like to watch it each year to kind of cart start the Christmas season. It was nominated for best picture and actually won three Oscars. Edmud Gwenn (who also was in Them! for sci-fi and horror fans) won best supporting actor as Kris Kringle. It also won for best original story by Valentine Davies and Best Screenplay by George Seaton.
I like the 1994 version, too, but Maureen O'Hara in the original (Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Quiet Man, The Black Swan, Parent Trap and Only the Lonely among others) is one of my favorites and John Wayne's best leading lady, imo.Comment

I'm glad you guys mentioned The Night the Animals Talked. I hadn't thought of it for a while. I remember seeing in the early to mid 70s but never since then. I was like Mikey and wondered if I had dreamed it. Thanks for posting it.
I also always enjoyed the Walton's Homecoming movie with "The Recipe." As a kid it always confused me why all the kids were the same but the mom and dad were different.
The Fat Albert Christmas Special is good, too.Last edited by madmarva; Dec 2, '12, 2:40 PM.Comment

Madmarva's right "Going My way" is awesome. I half to emotionally prepare myself before even watching it. I was lucky enough to grow up with great priests who helped me grow up and through the death of both of my parents when I was a teenager. When Barry Fitzgerald's character meets his old mother at the end I come unglued. What a great movie! I also love anything by Ranking Bass, what a great company.Comment

I also like An American Christmas Carol - with Henry Winkler as the Scrooge like character.
I somehow missed mentioning Charlie Brown. It is seminal, and it is ironic that the message has been forgotten, at least by the Peanut's license holders.
I remember for years before DVD and ABC Family, many of the Rankin Bass specials were "lost", even Santa Claus is coming to town and The Year without a Santa Claus. No one aired them. So glad they came back around. My kids love them as much as I did, and get to watch them whenever they like.
Anyone recall a really creepy animated A Christmas Carol/Scrooge from the late 60s/early 70s? I think it had Alastair Sim as the voice of Scrooge even!

Yeah, It's hard to beat Charlie Brown's Christmas. The sound track is on heavy rotation in my car and home. I've also got the Rankin Bass Christmas soundtrack, which is great listening to me. Sliver and Gold and Holly Jolly Christmas by Burl Ives and One Foot In Front of the Other are favorites of mine.
Love the River Bottom Nightmare Band from Emmett Otter.
Speaking of Henry Winkler in American Christmas Carol, the Christmas episode of Happy Days where the Cunningham's have Fonzie over for the holiday is excellent. The first couple of seasons of Happy Days before it got silly were really good.Last edited by madmarva; Dec 2, '12, 9:37 PM.Comment
