I can really only think of three, and one of them I can't believe hasn't been mentioned, Robotech. It was way more mature than it's counterparts. The others were Gi Joe and THundercats.

Have cartoons with the quality of the eighties GI Joe REALLY became that expensive to produce?Comment

>my biggest complaint was their animation seemed so junkie and cheap.
They didn't START that way. In the early 80's Japan's animnation industry was taking off, and they worked cheap; so you got a lot of nice looking stuff, ironically it was usually the secondary and tertiary shows: the ones everyone saw, but weren't big hits. By the mid-80's you got the Marvel/Sunbow thing, where they discovered you could use INCREDIBLY cheap animation and a tie-in to make an effective show.
>Goldie Gold and Action Jack
Hee heee.... I thouhgt I was the only person who remembered this one. Funny story: the giant squid that attacked them during the ski episode happened by accident. During one of the story meetings one of the writers (whi's name I forget) fell asleep.... as he was want to do during meetings. At some point he woke suddenly, shouting the words "giant squid!"
"So.... you want them to be attacked.... by a giant squid.... during the ski chase?" Not wanting to be caught for sleeping, he ran with it.
As for my top 5:

No, they're cheap. Quality-wise the 80's Joe was horrible.
>With the lack of good adventure cartoons these days
Not to redirect too much, but there are TONS of awesome cartoons on now:
....and that's without namedropping a singe superhero.

I'm a huge fan of Goldie Gold, even have some of the eps on VHS. My daughter likes them.
Other than Thundarr, it's hard for me to be terribly nostalgic about 80s toons. I was a teen during GI Joe, He-Man, Thundercats etc and while I tuned in, I was a jaded adolescent, not a wide eyed kid.
A lot of 60s kids would tell me that all my 70s stuff was crap but I'd watch a lot of their precious cartoons and think "what's so great about this?". It all depends on when you were in short pants.Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions

I know its really nostalgia, but I still find many of those cartoons entertaining.
If WB tomorrow was to release a Warlords cartoon of decent animation quality I would probably like it better than Clone Wars. I've just seen so much computer animation over the last ten years that Ive grown tired of it now.
The Japanese cartoon in the first link looks pretty good though.Comment

And both the 60s and 70s kids tend to pile on the 80s toons. A lot of 60s and 70s toons don't really click with me like The Jetsons, Flintstones, Bakshi Spiderman, Speed Racer, etc. But I'd never insult them and still think they are legitimately good cartoons even if they are not my cup of tea.You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...Comment

That's cool. "Entertaining" and "good" aren't neccessarily connected. A lot of what I like is absolutely horrid.

It's American, actually.
