What was your first purchase on ebay?

Did a few searches to see if this has been posted before but couldn't find anything, so here goes:

For the longest time I had searched for an item from my youth that I never owned but always wanted: Mattel Hand-Held Football. I went through numerous thrift shops, yard sales and swap-meets over the years, but to no avail. I did receive some hope when I saw one on an episode of Seinfeld in '97. There must still be some out there.

So one day in early March of '99, I'm strolling through one of my favorite haunts: Time Traveler Toys in Culver City (some of you So. Cal. boys may remember the place), and I asked the owner if he had any ideas where I could possibly find a Mattel Football. He said to try ebay. "Ebay, what am that?" Well, I quickly became a member and made my first purchase.

I was so excited when I won the auction, that when I wrote to the Seller I used all CAPS. My wife said that it's gonna' look to the Seller that he just sold to a lunatic. I didn't care; my quest had ended and I was ecstatic.

So, just curious to see what your first purchase was. Pics would be great.

I want to say it was a Mego Kirk, and wouldn't that be soooo convenient, but I think that was actually the 3rd item I got. It could've been a Micronauts Hydro-copter tho. I'll have check my feedback and see if I can jog my memory.

If memory serves, my first ebay purchase was a 12" single of THE COWBOY JUNKIES "Blue Moon Revisited: Song for Elvis" I was tickled ****less to see it and even happier that the person seliing it wasn't asking a fortune!
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

I started out on ebay mostly selling (old VHS tapes and records) but the first thing I bought, around 1999 or so, was a 14" Bandai vinyl Godzilla MIB. A couple negative points though: in retrospect, I think I was shill bid right up to my max, and when the seller shipped him, he just wrapped the figure's big cardboard box in brown wrapping paper, instead of putting the box inside of a bigger box first. And it was shipped all the way from Japan, so there was some damage. Argh! I kept him though, because I really wanted the figure, I still got him, just wish the experience was a bit better.

I joined ebay in 1996 and they were not using the feedback system at that time. My guess would be purchasing 1960's GiJoes or Captain Action stuff but I don't recall.

I signed up in 2000 and my first purchase was a Batman '66 glossy photo.

I'm with Hector, it's been way tooo long and tooooooo many items later for me to remember that.

                          No doubt... no doubt.

For some like me though, it was a special item that got us
to "take the plunge' as it were... and that's why there's
an amazing memory aid in that respect.

It actually kinda happened to me TWICE because the first time,
it was a realllly expensive vinyl record... and I still wasn't convinced
                          Ebay was "for me"...

...until about a year or two later I bought a McDonaldLand doll lot...
and THAT "broke me" into being a regular Ebay buyer----
so it was actualy kinda twice that I made a first Ebay purchase.

The real expensive vinyl record, by the way, was the first run of any
                          Randy Rhoads vinyl ever pressed.

I can only say the item arrived in a plain brown box with no markings on it, to ensure my privacy....

My first feedback was Feb '98, and I have no idea.
It may have been Mego, Japanese vinyl, or "Gentleman Sasquatch's ye olde-timey Hair Tonic" for all I know.
I was kinda surprised that I was apparently selling as soon as I was buying.
