    Obligatory Avenger's Thread

Just got out of a screening at work, and it's pretty damn good.

It manages a lot of characters very well,
and delivers tons of action, mayhem and humor.

Downey Jr. lights up whenever he's on screen,
but the biggest laugh comes courtesy of the Green Guy.

Easily one of the best comic films made.

I'll be there in about an hour. Looking forward to it. It's still getting incredible reviews.

I'm trying to stay away from everything on this movie as much as possible until I actually see it. Every time I hear a review about it, the first thing that gets mentioned is how awesome the special effects are and how great it looks in 3d. Haven't we come to the point in cinema where the money spent on effects in big budget movies are always awesome? I kind of expect awesome special effects out of every movie nowadays. Also, when was the last time you were just blown away by special effects? (Don't say Avatar!)As for 3d, I have zero interest in seeing this or any movie in 3d. What I'm hoping for is a great story, good acting, witty dialogue, and battle scenes that fit the film (unlike say a Transformers where so much was happening all at once you couldn't follow what was going on.) I'm pretty psyched for this movie and it looks like Saturday Evening will be when I get to see it. What's even better is I'll be going with my 6 year old and he's already taken his Iron Man shirt out to wear to the movie and placed it on his dresser as of Monday.
Till then I won't be looking at this thread cause I don't want to see any spoilers but here's hoping it's as good as it has been built up to be......

saw this movie last night and was blown away!! AWESOME!! The Avengers have done to superhero movies, for me at least, what Star Wars did for sci-fi back in the day, it's that dang good! I can't say enough about it, see it for yourself.

Saw it today: great movie. I'd probably go A-. Good acting, writing, effects, etc.; no major criticisms. Also, I saw it on the cheap, since I caught a matinee in central Ohio at an indy theater. $4.50 for the ticket, plus $5 for small popcorn, small drink & large Twizzlers . And, I took 2 hours off of work to see it, so I felt like I was getting away with something.

I love it. This is what the Fantastic Four films should have been. Tho it's an action film the plot doesn't ever seem to slow down that much even when there are scene of the characters just talking. It's like every moment is important. I couldn't even find a lull to go to the bathroom.

This is like X2 or X-Men: First Class with much more action/much more dire consequences. It's like the way Bryan Spinger described juggling many mutants; it's like a chess game with all the pieces in play. This film is outstanding.

First movie to do 200 million in the first weekend. Beat Harry Potter by almost 40 million. It's cleared 641 million already worldwide. Disney must be flipping out. There may be an Avengers 12 if the money stays this good.

Just got back from seeing the movie and for a Thursday night, the theater was packed. Some idiot sitting right behind me brought a screaming infant and it took him 45 minutes to get up and leave. Ah well, the movie was really good. Iron Man is by far still my favorite. Hulk is one of my all time least favorite super-heroes but Mark Ruffalo was awesome as Bruce Banner and that scene where Hulk and Thor fight a bunch of bad guys and stop to rest and Hulk just side punches him may have been my favorite part of the film. I loved the digs Stark got in on all the others (calling Hawkeye Legolas was awesome!) Someone asked me during the week who Thanos was so I kind of figured that was the mystery guy at the end. Also there's a rumor that Agent Coulson comes back in the second movie as Vision which would be really cool.

A few things I didn't get was the fear of the Hulk in the first half of the movie. Everyone was terrified of Banner turning into him and when he does he tries to kill Black Widow but when he show's up at the end and says he's angry all the time, he turns into the Hulk at will. If he could do that all along, why the dog and pony show with Tony Stark about learning how to control it and why go after Black Widow in the 1st transformation. The fall from the airship didn't all of a sudden teach him how to do it and it was implied he knew how to do it all the time yet when the security guard finds him, Banner asks if anyone was hurt and he's told that he was conscience the whole time even though Banner doesn't remember what happened. I also thought it was a little silly at the end when all the Super Heroes are fighting with their superpowers and there's Black Widow shooting aliens with a couple of pistols and I rolled my eyes with how they got Hawkeye to come out of Loki's trance when Black Widow explains she "hit him on the head" That's like out of a Gilligan's Island script where a coconut falls on a characters head and he gets amnesia and later another falls on him and he's back to normal. The Hulk thing really bugs me and I know the other two things are extremely minor but I did notice them. Overall I thought the movie was great and it's cool to know there will be more. They really are well done and the Avengers actually did something I didn't think was possible...It made me hope for a Hulk movie with Mark Ruffalo in the lead.

Avengers gave me a lump-in-the-throat/teary about 5 or 6 times. Last movie(s) to do that to me was LOTR. Been waiting for this a loooooooooong time for something this good.

My wife mentioned the Hulk thing. I chalked it up to Banner and all the heroes being influenced by Loki's staff right before his 1st transformation. The paranoia didn't wear off on the simple-minded Hulk.

OR, like in the comics, Hulk responds to the biggest threat. Since the attacking aliens were the bigger threat at the end, he aimed himself at them.

Saw it last night with the family. I thought the plot was pretty weak (and didn't make a lot of sense), but everytime the Avengers Assembled the movie was beyond good. The good far outweighed the bad.

I dunno, just seems a little like exploitation to me.
