Generally, if I hear my "tween" nieces talk nonstop about it, I usually don't want to watch/read it. I might be wrong, but I have lumped Hunger Games in the same young adult category as Harry Potter and Twilight.

Me and my girl were talking about going to see it. We might have to reconsider now.

Wife & dtr. sacrificed sleep for MN show on THU/FRI. They loved it. They read the books. They're into it. Even my son read Hunger Games. Now it's just me and the mini-dachshund who have not yet read/seen. It's a potentially bigger phenomenon than Twilight.

I don't know much about it, other than it sounds a whole heck of a lot like Battle Royale, which I waited years to see and when I finally got the chance to view it I fell asleep.

Going tonight with my wife. She read the book...I did not. Looking forward to the movie though.

I'm thinking we'll go see it. I read the 1st book & liked it. From all indications it's HUGE. I saw on the news they were running it non-stop all weekend with most shows sold out. Including the 6:30 AM showing!
The other day I was at Walmart and there was a group of about 8 college girls sitting on the floor looking at the books in front of a displayer. And I see they camer outwith trading cards, but haven't found a box that wasn't sold through. Haven't seen the action figures yet either of Katniss, Peeta, & Gale.

my son talked non stop about the books so i picked it up and did not stop for 3-4 days until I finished the entire series. great read. the movie moves a little slow the first half but it is setting up a trilogy so that is expected. great movie. really well adapted from the book. my wife took my oldest and some of her friends to see it tonight, i told them to bring tissues because there are some very sad moments. it is about children being forced to kill each other after all

I got lucky and my wife is going Monday night with a bunch of friends from work. So unless it is really good she won't want to see it again with me.

I just saw it tonight and I think if you read the books, you'll like it. It is extremely faithful to the novel. The parts they altered for the screen were all spot on. If you go in without knowing what the story is, you may find it slow paced and maybe a little boring at times but it's a good movie overall. It's a dystopian future with dark undertones and all the talk of the violence being toned down doesn't hinder the story one bit. It's plenty violent and there's a lot to like in the film. It's the first part of a three part story so there's a lot of set-up involved and it totally leaves you looking forward to the next film.

Here's the thing I don't get with the Hunger Games though...I read these books prior to any hype on the movie and really enjoyed them as a complete story. Now I'm not a teenage girl (last time I checked) and I'm not in 8th grade (although I may act like it sometimes) but I still found it to be completely enjoyable. I've never gotten the Twilightesque marketing to begin with but I also don't get why many out there seem to think that this is mainly for a tween type audience. I get the vibe that a lot of you think your lucky if you don't have to go see it. I guess the equivalent would be to think that the last Star Trek movie was just for nerds and not an awesome action film for people that like action films. I can totally get behind the relief of escaping a viewing of a Twilight movie because those stories are
                      A. written specifically for teenage girls
                      B. really bad stories and
                      C. terribly filmed movies.
Despite what the advertising is saying The Hunger Games is not Twilight. In fact after seeing the movie, if I had to compare it to another sci-fi film, it had similar traits to Dune...only much more watchable. So bottom line is at it's core, The Hunger Games is good Science-Fiction which seems to have gotten lost in the hype and marketing so if your a fan of the Sci-Fi genre give it a chance and you may be surprised.

all of the critic reviews I have read so far have been very quick to point out that this is NOT twilight and that it would be insulting to compare the two. it is a well written story and very thought provoking...and as you said at it's core a great scifi story.....thinks mad max meets 1984....except with out all the gay bikers in loin cloths....LOL

I saw this yesterday with my family. I have read all of the books. It was actually better than I thought it would be. The first twenty minutes were a bit boring though…
