City on the Edge of Forever is often named as the best Trek episode, but even before I knew that, it was my favorite. The story, the character bits, the bond between Kirk, Spock and Bones...it's Trek at it's best. When Kirk says "Let's get the hell out of here" at the end, that shocked me as a kid!
I always thought the creators of the "Generations" movie blew it by not having Kirk be at peace in the Nexus with Edith Keeler. A cameo by Joan Collins would have brought the house down, and made it more compelling when Picard asked Kirk to leave his happiness to help him.
Other favorites include "Mirror, Mirror", "Spectre of the Gun", "Arena", "The Enterprise Incident", "A Piece of the Action", "Amok Time", and "The Doomsday Machine".
I've always liked "Devil in the Dark". It's one of the episodes that I remember best from my childhood and that remains stellar entertainment. "The Doomsday Machine" is also one that stands out in childhood and holds up incredibly well today.
This is from a thread "Least Favorite TOS Episodes"...

How can you not love them all, heathens?
