I did a lot of dragging things around and cleaning at my dad's warehouse...

My first real job was working as a clerk in a crappy 24 hour video store. I was 16.

My first job is still the worst job i ever had. I worked at a chicken egg farm. This is by far the most disgusting job ever. Chicken crap is the worst smelling on earth. The guy that owned it was a real jerk. We had an egg fight one day (hey i was 15) he made me get down in the trenches and shovel chicken crap. God i can still smell that stuff. My parents made me keep my boots outside. Even washed off they smelled disgusting. I only did it for a few months and i will never forget it.

My brother cleaned a church and I'd help him. Eventually it ended up being me cleaning it and him giving me a cut of the pay because I was too young to hold a job.

Technicaly my real first job was parcel pick up at the Superstore back when we still had those red bins.

At 15 I was a lifeguard at a local church pool and taught little kids to swim during the summer. That was usually only for 2-3 months then I worked construction as a laborer at my dad's company. It was tough work but the money was good.

For years Chiclets used to be made by Warner Lambert which is about 2 miles down Forest Hills Road from my shop. They are also a customer of mine.

The day I turned 16 I had my Mom drive me to fill out job applications. I had worked before that but just cash jobs mostly and a paper route. The first job I applied for I got. Worked there until the place went out of business. It was a Pizza place called Noble Romans.

                  Ugh. So horrible.

The local canary. I stood in beet line for HOURS on end (killing my back). Just watching stinky wet beets so by. Even so many years later I get unpleasant nostalgia smelling whiffs of that sickly sweet smell. It stained my clothes. I had no idea what the eff I was doing. I just watched them. The night shift was cold and wet. I got a weird psycho guy that followed me around on my breaks. The ONE day they took me off the beets line and put me on the green beans, they had to shut down the line because a severed-in-half mouse went by. That was actually a fun highlight.

I only worked there ONE MONTH before quitting to I could go to Disneyworld in Florida with my aunt. I mean, who wouldn't choose that option?
I know I'm a big baby, but the back pain really sucked.

My first was as a finisher/porter for Dunkin' Donuts. Basically, I did everything except run the mixer, as I was only 14. I hosed off cookie sheets, did dishes, mopped, filled & iced donuts, filled the case out front, and did anything else that needed to be done. I wasn't a big fan of washing dishes et al, as the water was too hot. Don't know why I wasn't smart enough to wear gloves. The rest of the job was kind of fun. Nothing wrong with making donuts.

The most interesting job was working on the delivery truck, which was a beat to death pickup with cab (or whatever) on the back. The manager/owner usually drove, but occasionally an assistant would drive...while smoking pot. I was in the kitchen one day, and the manager walked in looking for the assistant:

                    Manager: "Where's Bob?"

Other assistant: "Oh, he's in jail."

Manager: "Ah. OK. Ron, can you cover his shift?"

No surprise, no "Jail? What for?" Just quiet resignation.

I'll give everyone credit for one thing, though - they took the food seriously, and the kitchen was kept pretty clean. I had no misgivings about eating our product.

My first job was working at Toys R Us in the video game department at the age of 17. I ended up running that department for many years, and worked at TRU for way too long after that, 17 years!

I started working at a grocery store in Louisville, KY when I was 15 in 1982 for about $2.85 per hour if i remember correctly. Worked there for about 3 years. By the time I left, I had held pretty much every position at one time or another. Bagging, stocking, produce, seafood dept, meat dept, checkout.... I did everything but be store manager.... Good times....

Carvel.... funnest job I ever had as all my friends worked there. Still my favorite ice cream, 30 years later.

Owner had a side buisness making adult themed icecream cakes. So at 15 years old I was sculpting giant weewees and boobbies, among other things out of icecream. Everytime Corp came to do an inspection, it was a mad scramble to hide those cakes.
