Shelver at the local library when I was 15 back in 1986. People returned books. I put them back on the shelves. Some days, I'd have to make sure all the books on the shelves were in the right order. Those were long days. Of course, I also knew where the library kept all the back issues of Playboy, so some days were better than others.

Also a movie theater. 3.35 an hour, free movies for me and a friend anytime at any of the 4 theaters in town. Down side? The boss was a hag and she pretty much hated her life, taking it out on the rest of us. The only night I ever asked off was to go see the Psychedelic furs, and she made me work. I quit and went to the Furs. I'm a rebel.

I was about 9-11 years old in Mexico (we moved there from 1970-1976)...all the little tykes that age back in the 70s used to sell Chiclets...it was a normal practice...I'd sell them in plazas, parks, sidewalks, markets, restaurants, touristy places, etc,...my dad would buy me boxes of them...and I'd make a profit...it was fun...all the kids would walk together in groups...and Chiclets were wildly popular, ah, the good 'ol days, lol.

Samples of what I'm talking about...

Then at around 12 years old (still in Mexico), I got a summer job being the cleaning boy of some electronics repair shop...that was also fun.

Then when I moved back to the USA...I went picking strawberries in the Summer...but only lasted one season...backbreaking work...I was about 14 or so.

Then I finally settled in a local liquor store...where I cleaned, stocked stuff...and even worked the cash register...was about 16 years old or so...and yes...it was a liquor store, lol.

Never worked in any fast food restaurants.

My first job was a dish washer at International House of Pancakes. And that was back in the days when the whole name was spelled on the sign. That job sucked. And I found better work not long after.

Worked at a local outdoor BBQ/catering place. Pretty unique place that usually has picnics for corporations. It was hard work but they paid us better than most places so continued working there from 15 all the way through college. Along the way was given increased responsibility to the point of being responsible for entire events with crews of 50+ people was offered Assistant Manager of the entire company just before graduating but turned it down as I didn't want the responsibility to deter me from job hunting. I really owe a lot of my leadership skills, learning corporate politics, etc. from working there and walked into my first out of college job much more business savvy than the typical college graduate.

Clerk in a toy store, a really crappy one that sold mostly transformers "bootlegs" (now I have learned that these were Japanese diecasts and were almost all based on Anime like Gundam and are very valuable).

The owners always seemed hung over most of the time and closed up shop right after Christmas without warning.

Although I spent my childhood as an unpaid employee in my dad's warehouse picking orders, I remember standing on a skid of General Urko figures.

Besides helping my mom at the Hallmark store she managed off and on from age 10 to 14 or so, my first real job was at the drugstore on my street where I had bought the majority of my comics (and some rack toys!) over the years. My aunt worked there as well. I started at age 15, did odd jobs around the place, learned to run the register, filled prescriptions (!) and, when I got my license, drove deliveries around town.

After about a year and a half I quite for the lucrative job of Wal-Mart stock boy.

I worked all through high school.
