Its one of those 'You dont know what we've got till its gone" type of things. I do think they go a little to far with it on the news (the world news is way more important). I think the thinking is maybe her tragedy could help someone eles. -
My thoughts exactlyI've been quiet about anything about her since her death but I gotta day I really don't understand what the deal is with her. She hasn't been relevant since like 1994 and her last hit was the National Anthem in 2001 which was a re-release of a song she (prerecorded) for the Super Bowl in 1991. Up until her death she was a character that Mad TV, late night talk shows, and SNL used for laughs and she's been basically known for her inebriation and bad marriage for the past fifteen years. All of a sudden she's some sort of nation treasure that needs a televised funeral!? It's like if Meatloaf passed away and we all of a sudden talked about what an icon we lost even though he hasn't done anything decent since 1978. Don't get me wrong, dying at 48 is tragic under any circumstance but it's been twenty + years since she could sing and at best she was a has-been singer that had a decent voice at one time but lost it years ago due to drugs. To make her out to be the second coming of Michael Jackson is absurd. I saw some footage of the funeral today too and it looked more like a publicity stunt instead of a memorial service. Again very sad she died so young but everything else.....I'm sorry but just don't get it....

What a sad funeral. It didn't really hit me until the pall bearers lifted her casket at the end and they began playing I will always love you.Leave a comment:

That's not Cissy in "Aloha".... Cissy left the group in '69. "Aloha" was '73. The Sweet Inspirations at that time were Myrna Smith, Sylvia Shemwell and Estelle Brown.Another tidbit that is not well known. Whitney's mom, Cissy, was one of The Sweet Inspirations. They were backup singers for ELVIS during the concert years. I watch the Aloha From Hawaii concert once a year and you can pick Sissy out, no problem. It looks like an 80's Whitney up on stage with him.Leave a comment:

I would be curious as to the other prescription drugs as well as how much Xanax was taken along with alcohol. I am familiar with Xanax and I believe Michael Jackson was known to take up to 30 mg a day which is definitely a lethal dose unless he built some type of tolerance for it. I don't know if the truth will ever come out, but I am going to guess that she took a large dose of Xanax, had large amounts of alcohol, causing her to blackout and drown in the bathtub. I know what her family is saying, but short of an overdose on Xanax; it really is a safe medication if taken as prescribed even with the alcohol.Leave a comment:

I was hoping it wasnt that but its no suprise. That combination can be lethal.Leave a comment:

She did have a really great voice. It was sad the direction her life went in for awhile. Sad to hear she's gone.Leave a comment:

The family released details from what the coroner told them privately. She died from a mixture of Xanax and prescription drugs mixed with alcohol. There was not enough water in her lungs to drown her. They said she likely died before her head submerged in the water. Very sad. As colorful as the last chapter of her life was, her demise was an accident that can happen to anyone. So let this be a frank reminder for anyone who has to take medicine. Be careful mixing alcohol. The combination can be lethal. Here's the story...

I had the pleasure of standing right at the stage during a Whitney concert at Hersheypark stadium in the late 80's. There was a guy standing next to me with his little daughter on his shoulders. She had some flowers for her, and when Whitney bent down to get them, I was close enough to stand on my toes and give her a kiss. It was tempting...Leave a comment:

I remember seeing a WH concert back in 1985. The seats were crappy and we had to use binoculars to see her.Leave a comment:
