    Hooked on HDTV?

Anyone besides me hooked on HDTV? I have only realized this recently. We have one HDTV in our home and two analog TV's (one in our bedroom and one in the mancave...aka the basement). When we plunked down the money for an HD, it was the year of the Summer Olympics (Michael Phelps winning gold and I was watching everything with my jaw dropped open). Now, a few years later; my kids have taken over the HDTV claiming that they want to watch cable channels that can only be seen via a DVR (which is true). This evening; I have been watching a couple of episodes of Spartacus "Gods of the Arena" in the mancave and realized how awful it is to watch a DVD on an analog tv now that I am accustomed to watching tv in HD. The contrast/brightness stinks but realized that it just downright looks blurry to me compared to playing it on a Blu-ray HD. Now I feel like a complete snoot because I can't see a toga being torn off in HD and am contemplating buying an HD for the mancave where I can watch adult appropriate movies sans the kids but am wondering if I am just talking myself into an unnecessary purchase.

I should add that my daughter watches the most tv out of my three kids and although she plays soccer and does well in school; she does like to spend a lot of free time watching shows on tv that I can barely watch....tonight it was something she DVR'd on MTV and then "Freaky Friday" with Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan. My head started pounding after five minutes and I couldn't help but wonder if I should just buy a HDTV for the mancave and claim the promised land as my own.

I know some stars don't want us to watch them on HDTV...a lot of imperfections can be seen...

Every time I see HD at the store, I look away, can't stand it. It just doesn't have the same feel to me. I saw the Wizard of Oz playing once in HD and it looked like crap.

Something to keep in mind: many (most?) stores aren't bright enough to feed their TVs with HD signals. It seems to me that a lot of them just play a regular dvd and split the coax output 30 ways...same crappy display they've had for 20 years.

If you really want to see what HD can do, find a store that has a Blu Ray feeding into the HDTV. That was what sold me on upgrading. It was so realistic, it was like looking out a window. Now, I hate to watch sports not in HD. I can tolerate regular movies & TV, but the difference is huge in sports.

Do it! I got one for my mancave a few months ago and love it. The prices have come down so much, you can get a great TV for a really good price these days.

The WIzard of Oz was blu ray HD, looked horrible. I NEVER want HD. It reminds me of public access cable live video feed. Blecchh.

Something must of been wrong with the way they were showing it or the connections used because the Wizard Of Oz blu ray is awesome!

I don't mind the standard definition look but what jumps out when I see a standard TV after being used to HDTV is the visibility of the scan lines.

Maybe I just prefer the movie the way it was intended, and not junked up with modern technology. It lust looked really bad to me.

You were watching it on a bad set up to be sure because the blu ray is the closest thing I have seen yet to seeing WOZ in the theater (which I have a couple times).
