    Everyone Ready For Irene???

Seems like it is going to be a huge deal here on the Jersey coast, as well as NYC. We stocked up on some stuff, got the generater hooked up to the sump pumps and fridge.

good luck with it, you guys havent gotten a storm like this in quite awhile. Here in the deep south its just a heavy hot wind (and no rain, when we need it)

I'm a little over 60 miles from the Jersey shore but they're saying it's so big we will probably get hit with some of it.

Looks like I'm in for it here. They just announced a mandatory evacuation of my area on the south shore of Nassau County, Long Island. I'm supposed to vacate my house by 5 PM tomorrow. I have a hard time believing this could be that bad. I remember Hurricane Gloria in the 80s. But I'm really not sold on leaving my house yet.

Does the evacuation centers around there allow pets ?

They say not allowing pets is the number 1 reason people don't evacuate.

I guess depends where you live. My family on Long Island and the Weather station just said it will not be anywhere near the force of Gloria.

                    Be prepared anyways!

Ready for Irene. North of Sunrise Highway here in Suffolk County. I remember Gloria...and we really didn't get that much damage. Belle back in 76 or 77 was worse then Gloria. I remember that one because we had the Sliding glass doors in our first house boarded up and the fireplace boarded and closed off just in case of broken glass. Basically were all huddled in the living room/dining room area of the house.

I cant recall the damage from Belle. I lived in Huntington and remember Gloria knocking down more trees and we were out of power for a week. I was like 16 then, so it was all fun and games.

                          What town are you in?

                          stay safe

Same here, we are on the edge of the flood zone but we have enough rations to last for 5+ days.....I am not leaving my house, I mean it's not like my basement can get any wetter!
