Crossbows are also illegal to own in most states due to their lethal and silent nature. My friend's father has a few that he is allowed to use for hunting due to a handicap and I was allowed to shoot it at a target a few times...really bad arse.

You definitely have to be prepared to kill if self defense is a primary motivation. I believe the law in most of the land is that you can only use one if your life is in peril. With that said, you don't want another side of the story.

Just got back from a gunshop/ pawn shop

man they had some cool stuff, everything from mini revolvers to assault rifles

the used shot guns were pretty cool, the prices were from $250 and up with the short grip which is awesome, but then I notice they had the same one I was getting in Wal-mart..the 12G for $187, I ask how much...It's brand new he says...I say cool how much..if you take it today $285

I'm guessing wal-mart was a good deal after all

+1 on the model 500 Mossberg! I have had mine for 25 years now and it is a great gun. It came with both a shot and slug barrel. A friend of mine sold his with the shot barrel and gave me the old slug barrel so I use that when it's in home protection mode. We have a few different handguns too. Maggy even has her own 38 and a carry permit from PA.

If you are armed and shoot back at officers...they will shoot to kill...even if you start running...they will shoot you in the back as well...there's no such thing as being gentlemanly in real life and death situations.

Also another Hollywood myth...that a cop will wait until you draw first...what a crock...it never gets to that point...the cop will shoot you...lol.

For home defense, go with the widest spread. I doubt anyone would really want to kill an intruder if they can help it. .
