youtube vintage 70s toys commercials reignited my passion for my childhood toys, and then i kept finding mention of megomuseum and cheese and pie and monkeys and i eventually had to check it out for myself. Then, i met Rob Chatlin via the boards and went to his private Mego Lair and bought some figs and I just can't seem to stop playing and building and collecting and enjoying the amazing and funny things everyone does on these boards. :-)

Not to change the subject, but the old "mailing list" interests me.
Not being very computer savy (back then), my question--- was a mailing list an actual forum ?
I heard there was a lot of fights before Mego Museum (as we know it today)...... but how can people fight on a mailing list ?Comment

I first came for knowledge, as I was spending way too much money on crap.
The dialogue on the museum forums was unlike any other I had ever seen. I figured I'd take a chance and expose myself (people are still trying to erase those images from their memory).
Seriously though, I think most of us come here for an almost unexplainable love for these toys, and our desire to know more about them. What ends up happening is that we discover that this hobby becomes much much more when you can freely share it with people who quickly become friends. The process of joining the museum validates the hobby in ways that even the most understanding of spouses can't do. Even friends who grew up with you and shared countless hours playing with Megos with you as a kid rarely understand the draw that these particular pieces of plastic have on you as an adult. But fellow collectors all share that feeling, and having such a unique subject matter that happened to coincide with most of our childhoods helps a lot. Most of us have common cultural points of reference. Not all hobbies have that. These are the things that keep us coming back, and spending inordinate amounts of time here.
This isn't a unique phenomenon to Mego collecting, but the museum is one of the best examples of a community based around a shared interest. Without the groundwork laid here, I doubt this hobby would mean nearly as much to most of us, and events like MegoMeet would rarely if ever happen, and they would be more centered around the toys instead of the people.

I came via a link someone posted on rebelscum, I just lurked and then finally won a parts lot off of ebay to get a Spiderman ... well he needed a head so I joined here looking for one and Dave Mc helped me out. I won another couple auctions soon after, but was stiffed on both ... so it took about a year and a half before I came back, but I did and I've been here ever since.Comment

thirsty
An unquenchable thirst for all things mego brought me in. The friendly forums keep me coming back. I have NEVER liked 'boards before, I don't visit any others. There tends to be a lot of negativity on them, which I don't have room in my life for. But here everyone is helpful and friendly. I am also blown away by the creativity on display. I'm glad I finally joined.

I originally came here for the cards. This of course was before they popped up all over eBay. Around that time I had gotten a Type 1 Superman off of eBay and wanted to know if the outfit he came with was the right one. Since then I've decided to stick around and see what else I can learn here. Found out I'm learning alot about both Mego and non-Mego stuff.Comment

For me, it occurred a couple of years ago. I was going through my old things and found some of my childhood Megos...most of them had seen better days and in a fit of nostalgia decided to go to Ebay to purchase some nice examples of the toys I used to play with.
I couldn't believe how much they were selling for and after purchasing a really nice RC Bats, I decided to do a search on Mego Collecting so I could learn as much about the hobby and fair prices to pay for figs.
A whole new world opened to me. I never knew there were T-1's and T-2, Circle Suit Spidey's, Smirking and Smiling Mxys, or any of the countless variants that I have now come to learn.
And I found that most everyone here is around the same age as me and share a lot of the same childhood memories, growing up watching the same shows, reading the same comics, etc."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."

Which time??"Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn"
In the Southeast Pacific, lies the sunken city of R'Leyh. There lies C'thulhu waits to return to our world with the other Great Old Ones. A hideous creature of enormous size and alien power, it waits for it's time to return patiently. For it has all the time in the world while it waits for the stars.

I found out about the Museum through My Friend Scott Metzger...but stayed because it's a GREAT Place, with a really GREAT bunch of People. Though I haven't met any of You in Person...I consider many People here Friends. We're kinda of a Family here...We discuss everything(Megos, Si-Fi, Comics, etc...),and sometimes argue & fight...but then make up, and move past it.
And I'm also of course...a Mego-Holic!And there's no better place to be than than here, to talk Megos(and Custom Megos!).
When I turn on My Computer...this is THE first Place I go!sigpicComment
