The crazy schedule the past week has made fast food and soda the fuel of choice for the all/late nighters, although when I've been able to plan around it, I've made smarter choices as well. Not going to beat myself too much about it since I've kept a pretty consistent workout routine.
Saturday was a full rest day, although we've been doing quite a bit of spring cleaning to avoid ending up on that Hoarders tv show.
Having an active spouse is certainly good for mutual support, particularly as she ramps up for the Ride to Conquer Cancer. I've backed out of that weekend long ride down to Niagara Falls because it coincides with Mego Meet. I'll have to find my own events so that I have some goals... I think I'm going to be doing at least one if not both of the City Chase events in Toronto.
So we went and did my first spinning class in ages on Sunday morning before she went out on an extended outdoor ride. I snuck off to the toy show and dog park, and then ate at Apache Burger on the way home. Even with a low gear on the bike, I was totally rubber legs afterwards. Still feeling a bit self conscious about my thighs slappin' the belly with each pedal stroke.
I also had a funny moment this weekend during a client meeting. They are a company servicing Active Singles. Halfway through the meeting, one of the fit and fetching young ladies sitting across from me suddenly stops abruptly because she recognizes me as the instructor from when I was teaching the noon hour kickboxing class downtown at Bay Street a couple of years ago. It was a little like being recognized as Superman behind my glasses... if Clark Kent had become tubby and bald.
Monday I did weights. Still keeping it really low for now until my body gets used to the routine again. Although I will be sticking with a high reps/lower weights as I aim for leaner functional muscle mass rather than bulk.
Very tired today. Barely got through yoga... the focus was on upper body strength. Took the easy options and relished the opportunity to just breath and stretch. Managed to force myself to do half and hour on the bike to spin out the lactic acid.
I need to make sure I eat before I hit the gym. Also should be drinking more water... I've been squeezing lime into it to make it more appealing.Comment

I've been trying to fit in longer workouts to help with the anxiety I've been having at work. It's not even the hours I'm working, just a situation in one of the classrooms where I'm assigned. On Sunday, Nate asked what I wanted to do(this usually involves playing video games most of the day) and we ended up taking the dog across town to a park and taking a nice walk.Hey! Where's the waiter with the water for my daughter?

Thanks Cat. Part of the problem was eliminated, and the rest had gotten better for a while. But because of some new inconsistencies, the classroom is in chaos again. Some of the kids are just out of control, and even aside from the small group that caused me problems before, it's just a nerve-wracking place to be.Hey! Well, we kicked off Biggest Loser on Thursday at my job. 26 of us are competing, and I weighed in at 194. My goal is now to hit 164 by June 16. I've been focusing on diet so far - mainly trying to get used to fewer carbs. Once I'm over that hurdle, I'll try to work out more.
Interesting note: I don't usually drink diet soda (and please let's not have that argument again), but I poured myself a glass of Diet Coke on Fri. I then dropped a Mentos into the bottle, and disappointed my kids because one Mentos in a depleted bottle of Diet Coke doesn't do much.
Anyway, drinking a glass of Diet Coke triggered a sugar craving. I wasn't expecting that. I seem to have gotten past that stage, but it was kind of weird.Comment

Something about Spring really makes things kick into high gear (but in a pretty good way).
A number of unexpected new clients walked in the door looking for a summer launch, as well as current clients FINALLY giving the greenlight to projects already on the table.
Plus... the house is in absolute chaos due to the continual Spring Cleaning project.
I've managed to make it to the gym every other day the past week and taught my classes. The rest days weren't really much rest days though. Trips to Ikea, carrying shelves up three flights of stairs and assembling them, and moving boxes and boxes of books around the house is a pretty good workout. Shoulders are feeling tight from that and the weights and teaching my classes. The increased focus on upper body workout is positive though. I find lower body a relative breeze in comparison since I'm inclined to activity that emphasizes leg performance using both fast and slow twitch muscles.
We're subsisting on take-out food, but trying to make smarter choices about it... pizza on whole grain crust, loaded with veggies (chicken for me). The only downside is the free garlic sticks and pops. Still using Wednesdays as the day I get to eat a deep fried mars bar and Fat ******* Burrito.
I've been trying to rope friends into being workout buddies with varying success. However, I have been trying to attend fitness classes run by friends on a consistent basis because that kind of creates an expectation.
My lovely spouse (in relation to a conversation about flossing) mentioned that according to some research it takes 21 days for something to become ingrained as habit.
I'm consistently exhausted and trying to get more sleep every night to aid in the recovery.Comment

Congrats to me - I just dropped under 190.It's only temporary, as I just did 4 hours of yard work on <500 calories (so far today), and I feel a bowl of baked Tostios & salsa coming on. Still, it's nice to see measurable progress.
I'm kind of over carb withdrawal, I'm used to diet soda, and I've successfully avoided pizza & fast food except for Egg McMuffins which are OK. Next stop - 185.Comment
