Our house is built on an underground stream. In order to keep our basement dry with have 2 sump pumps and a french drain. I wish we would have known before we moved in, we lost a lot of stuff before we put in the french drain.

That's interesting Type3Toys. We have one sump pump and it can run for days if we get a heavy rain that produces roughly two inches of water (It can start on less than that if we're in a wet season). I have a battery powered backup pump in case my main one fails. This year has been relatively dry so my pump has not run nearly as much. But I'm curious. If a french drain is a route I wanted to explore, would you recommend doing it as a home project (meaning myself) or is it better to pay to have it done professionally? I haven't had any water breeches in my basement to date (knock on wood). But I'm always looking for another line of defense to keep me safe. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Man, that is terrible Cmonster, just what you don't need. All the best to you dealing with this crappy situation.

I hate water in the basement...we've had it quite a few times over the years...So I can only imagine how much it sucks to actually have it on your main floor.....Bleech!

I see that Clark Bartram (Batman Dead End) also has a lot of water in his house.
