Leave it to Sandy to find an upside.

On a serious note, please enjoy a little time at Christmas. I know that is easier said then done at this point. I had my basement flood a few years ago and lost several K in flooring and furniture, so I know a little of how you feel. But I didn't lose anything near what you did and it wasn't my living area. Remember that our thoughts are with you.

      Wow,That's terrible sorry dude!!!
I can relate as our basement floods here every couple of years. The first year we lived here
we had no idea and lost alot of things.Pictures being the heart breaker. After that we water proofed everything in storage down there.Still a pain in the butt though.

On a side note I work for the city doing sewer work and ground level saturation in these parts was at 150% meaning there is no place for water to go now.
Our rivers are at major high points and now frozen so this spring will be disastrous.
There will be massive flooding here this year...

The general says I should, but I don't wanna ruin his Christmas. I get to to Seattle on Thursday and it's STILL raining!!! AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!

The damage is already done and with only a few days before Christmas I'd wait to tell him. Let him celebrate Christmas with his family first. Let him deal with this after that. And who knows when everything dries up again the damage might not be so bad as you think.
Either way, this sucks and I hope I never have to go through anything like this. Well, my living room will never be affected (it's on the second floor), but if it is, that means the end of the world
Keep your chin up Sandy, try to make the best of the holidays with your family and try not to think of this for a few days.

That storm when north to the canucks. And it wasn't that bad either. LOL.

I guess I'm the only one that loves these rain storms.

Sandy, I, too, would recommend holding off and telling your dad after the holidays.
Sounds like you are being positive about the situation. That helps a lot but it never hurts to vent.

              Cheers!

My sister is in Monterey and afraid she will wash down the hill. It is insane.

We had 6 months of rain in 2 days September 2009. Lots of areas got flooded out. We had a little water in the garage and a roof leak developed. Fish were swimming on the Interstate by 6 Flags over Georgia and they were under 3-4 feet of water.
Too many toys. Not enough space!

If they start swimming around in my living room, they're in trouble...

God bless you Sandy. Just know you are in my thoughts and prayers. I wish there was something I could do. If I could fly you out of there I would do it. Stay strong and know you have support here. 2011 WILL BE BETTER!

Needless to say...I got fed up and sold that House.
I can sympathize too. During a freak October snow storm four years ago, our power was knocked out, and our finished basement had some flooding as the sump pump didn't work. We had just literally moved into the house less than a week earlier, and didn't have a generator (we do now!). Lots of expensive carpeting to replace. I swear, the next house we buy will NOT depend on a sump pump, I'm still paranoid about the power going out and having flooding in the house.

Do you have a home owner's insurance policy that would cover this act of God type of water damage?
You are transparent; I see many things... I see plans within plans.
