Fictional character most important to me?
Spider-Man. Made me want to learn to read the comics I had (Spidey Super Stories), and encouraged me to expand into other kinds of reading. Huge thanks to Stan Lee, Steve Ditko, John Romita, Sr., Gil Kane, Ross Andru, Jim Mooney and countless others.Comment

Conan or the man with no name eastwood character. Those two are just cool.“When you say “It’s hard”, it actually means “I’m not strong enough to fight for it”. Stop saying its hard. Think positive!”Comment

I should've included Kirk in my list . . . for all his flaws (writers and Shatner's fault), he's always appeared the kind of leader I aspire to be. Even for little rules, like "Always leave someone in charge when you leave" -- on my old team I used to manage a couple jobs ago, they'd laugh when I was going on vacation or taking the day off and I'd announce that one of them "has the con" -- until they realized I was serious, and would hold them responsible for what went on in my absence. I use that very approach with my son now, as he gets left in charge of his little sister, that it doesn't matter what she did if something went wrong (like when she microwaved mac & cheese for 15 minutes), he was in charge and he's responsible. Kirk also always leaves his experts to do their work, and stays out of the way (unless he needs to hurry them), and he never asks anyone to do anything he wouldn't do -- more solid examples of how to lead.
Yeah, no kiddin'! Sandy -- wow!Last edited by knight errant00; Aug 19, '10, 11:40 AM.Comment

I grew up watching the star trek episodes. It was my inspiration for other sci fi interest. William Shatner and Leonard Nemoy are at the top of my list of inspirational characters.Comment

Captain Kirk.
He was the first SciFi hero I saw, way back in 1970, sitting under the kitchen table watching TV.
Since then, I've had a passion for exploring the stars, fighting for a good cause, and halfdressed green slave girls.
Star Trek taught me to think outside the box, be tolerant when possible, kick butt when necessary, and always keep my photon torpedoes armed and locked on target, even on peaceful missions.
Kirk was the perfect role model for young men, both physically and mentally.
I wish he had gone down, ramming the Enterprise down a Klingon Bird of Prey's throat, and not "oh, my, I took a tumble"....
Here's to James Tiberius Kirk, first champion of Humanity on our TV screens......

For me as a teenager, I was definitely influenced by Danielle Moonstar of the New Mutants, back in the early 80's.
She was everything I wanted to be, and wasn't: Tall, athletic, pushy, no-nonsense and bad ***; yet also compassionate, caring and affectionate.
Plus, I also wanted her hair, especially when it was in the super long phase.
No matter how hard I've tried, I've never been able to achieve that kind of length. But then of course, I'd have to go without cutting my hair for at LEAST ten or twelve years to achieve it. LOL.JediJaidaComment
