In Which Arcade Did You Hang Out in the 80's?

I realize this is not a 70's question, but I was reminiscing about my favorite classic video games and thought back to where I spent WAY too much time as a kid. Ther was a place near me with the great name of Cosmic Cave, but I spent most of my time at the Oxford Valley Mall's version of this place-

If you're really committed to walk back to hese dark places, here are two links to training slideshows for Space Port workers. I imagine there was some sort of narrative given live. Ther a re great machines in the background and some outfits I distinctly remember wearing.

I was in Oxford, Ohio, home of Miami University, so I mostly went to the campus arcade and hung around there.

The first thing I thought of when I saw this thread was..."Well, SPACE PORT
in OXFORD VALLEY MALL....but NO one's gonna know what the heck I'm
talking about if I say that." THEN I opened the thread!

(I'm from Holland, PA in Bucks...a "COUNCIL ROCK school district" guy.)

The only arcade in town that I remember was located in Price Chopper...they quickly instituted a "no children during school hours" rule. I think you had to wait until 3pm.

My uncle was an arcade "pioneer"...he converted the dining room in his pizza place into an arcade in the early 80s.

Other than that, you had to travel to the mall to see a REAL arcade

Funway Freeway in the Normandy Mall (Jacksonville, Fla.). I practically lived there for years. It was a pinball arcade before the video games took over and was a wonderful place to grow up inJOHN

                We had two:

                The Electric Animal
                The Electric Galaxy

The Animal is a coffeehouse now; not sure aboot the Galaxy.

I think it was called the "Gold Mine." The front of it was made to look like a cave. It was pretty neat.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

i didn't do the local arcade much. i think there was one in the mall we hit.

but the one i remember most was in 1980 and 81 the tent at the county fair. my sisters and mom were into 4H so we were there 8 days straight all day. me and my brother mainly stayed in the arcade tent. the ground was perpetually wet and we would get shocked by machine frequently.

We had an awesome arcade in Sparks, Nevada called Starbase One. It was in a strip mall. It was one giant open room with the only windows at the entrance. The walls were painted with images that looked like huge windows looking out into space. Each window view was different, with various famous spaceships either flying past or in space battles. I remember one window showed some Star Destroyers and another had Vipers and Cylon fighters in combat. It was a LOUD arcade with all the games going at once, but it was the coolest place ever for 11 year old Doc Drako. It was right next to my mother's favorite grocery store so I got to play while she shopped. And next door to Starbase One was a World of Toys. What great times. Arcades were great social places. You could challenge a stranger to a game of doubles and make a friend.

"I prefer to remain an enigma."

King's Pizza was pretty much a scary drug den that my parents forbade me to go to but they had "tutankhamun" and I could not resist. I spent my remaining time at a "Submarine Machine" that was really an arcade.

I played Shinobi so much at one store that they hired me.

We used to hang out at Pinball Pete's in East Lansing MI. Man what memories you have just conjured up. I used to love hanging out there.
