    >If something goes wrong, there's no one I can blame and it'll cost more money to fix the problem.

Sounds like the drivers aren't compatable. If you have online access, you should be able to get Windows 7 drivers for your hardware from the manufacturers. Or, you can wipe the whole thing and reinstall Windows XP, and your old software....

If you have your old software installed on our new PC (Hope it was XP) you can right click onthe icon and then choose properties, then click the compatibility tab and tell it to run the program as Windows XP.

Think B.A. Where did you hide the Megos?

I had Windows XP on the old PC. I had no trouble installing the programs that came w/ my firsst Gateway on it back then.

But I've made a decision. This weekend, this PC is going back in the box. I know a lot of you think it's stupid to downgrade, but this thing has been giving me problems. First Windows 7 does not like AOL, and I was told this by the Geek Squad guy. I didn't know the extent of this. But I happen to like AOL, and just b/ c I get a new PC doesn't mean I like my options taken away. And this business about me getting new software and a new scanner just doesn't sit right w/ me. I could see if it was broken, but it's not. I have a peffectly good scanner and software I was happy with.

It occurs to me that the computer industry plays consumers for suckers. I mean, other than the almighty dollar, there really isn't any reason to change things around and make whole new systems every year to 2 years. You put out money for a system, software, accessories, and then the industry invents something new and turns around and says, Oh no, that system that you just spent your hard earned money on is old and our new system is better and won't work w/ the old." So what do consumers do? We buy the new system only to do the same thing a year later. And for what? To make someone else richer. And the same goes w/ DVDs, Blu-ray, video games, cell phones, etc. What I'm not going for this! I'm a consumer and I want nice things, but I'm nobody's sucker! I'm not gonna dole out my money for the latest and greatest when what I have works pefectly well. And have you noticed that once you've gotten rid of your classic stuff (say for instance, records), because they've been deemed obsolete, the industry finds a way to bring the old stuff back (USB turntables) and then you're sorry you got rid of your stuff? I never had that problem. I still have my records, and I wasn't gonna get rid of them b/c the industry said they were old. And you know this transcends into human behavior. Old people are becoming worthless in our eyes too. We stick 'em in nursing homes and call them feeble b/c they have many years of experience under their belts. I just hope your kids won't think that of you in your old age.

Anyway I've ranted enough. And please, no arguements as to why I'm making a collossal mistake.

Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic

Its your decision to make. Just make sure you keep your anti virus software as current as possible on your XP machine and you'll be fine.

Too bad you don't live closer to Tennessee. I'd be more than happy to get your new computer running for you.

You could also take it to them and tell them to load xp on it and make them do what ever else you want.

Problem with that would be trying to find drivers for all the new hardware.
