My last employeer fired people at the end of the day (usually on Friday). I think they felt they were getting another day of work out of you.

Again thanks for the support. You girls and guys Rock!

            Any info helps-Thanks!
I'm hoping for the best for you. This has to be nerve racking and I hope it all blows over for you without incident.

To answer your question, firing an employee and laying someone off are two different things and have two different sets of laws (and the definition and rights are state dependent). You have specific rights when it comes to being fired. It has to be for cause and a layoff is more commonly applied to a group of people. If they are searching your office and desk, and they have the right to do that, well....that doesn't sound like a layoff...it sounds like they are looking for cause and that would be a firing. If they are searching your office...get your ducks in a row, right now. You can fight a firing if there is no cause.

Hang in there...hopefully it's a false call...but if it's not...by all means...don't be ashamed to collect unemployment...it's your right as a hard working individual.

This is nuts!!! And crazy! I'm at a friends need to rush home. I'll explain more late tonight. Now i was suspended for 3 days pending a investigation. They my job want to go back and look at previous reimbursemet checks they paid me. These reimbursement checks were approved by not only my manager but his manager also before paying me. I have 2 signatures on my checks, my employer now wants to see receipts from the past? I dont get that. My employer said if I dont bring in the receipts for those checks that were paid i'm fired and face legal action.

I was under the impression though that i did not have to keep the receipts once paid. How the heck can i come up with every single receipt from the past 3 months! Why did they pay me, now they want there money back?

                    Getting an attorney.

                    Thanks

Before I go, if you received your Reimbursement check, A check that was approved by 2 managers and the Accounts payable clerk- do i still hae to by law keep the receipt? Even afer i'm paid? If so , i'm supposed to get a storage area and store thousands of receipts for years and years? The receipts i provided were taking up tons of space for a months worth. 3 months would be piles and piles of checks.

weren't you required to submit receipts when you applied for reimbursement? That's pretty standard. If so, they should have copies.

Not in the past 10 years no. They my employer told me if they needed the receipts they would ask when reviewing the Reimbursement form i submitted. I held all receipts until paid and cashed the check. I do have the photo copies of the checks approved. I kept 2 months of back ups. But now to come up with every receipt after the fact is hard, these were cash items dating back months to years. So no they did not require a receipt and they admit that, oddly they now want receipts to what i was already paid for by them. I'm ****ed and confused.

Thats where i feel they are looking for an excuse to fire me. For some reason they only want past cash paid receipts. Receipts i was willing to provide but they paid me with taking the receipts. Once i was paid most of those receipts were trashed.

Exactly starhunter. They have been firing many people over the past 6-9 months for reasons to where those employees cannot collect vacation nor um employment. Its messed up, I know the economy is bad, but come on! This is wrong.
