Tigger, you should start pitching show ideas to the people who produce Antiques Roadshow. They could just follow you around an estate sale with hidden cameras while you haggle, and I honestly think people would watch it. You might have to start disguising yourself so folks don't see you coming and start jacking up prices!

I have never and never will haggle. These finds from this one sale is one of the few times I made an offer. I guess my offer was more than she had in mind, because she didn't think twice when I offered the $350.

Most of my finds are already priced, and I just say "Thank You!!"

I will do OK on this lot, $100 - $200 profit, but the best part is that I will get the fire truck for free, because I did decide to keep it. I basically paid about $11 an item on this lot.

I need to take another picture of the fire truck in bright day light. When I say it is mint, it is mint!! It is missing one headlight, but i have already bought a replacement on Ebay for $5. So it is mint with one repro headlight.

I think the Tonkas alone will easily make you back your money, they look to be in great condition. Fun to watch!

                Cheers,

WOW, was I way wrong when I thought the Tonka fire truck was only $150 or so.

                  Mine:

Two on closed auctions, mine is better than either one of these:

When I hit the church auction each year, the dealers show up in droves bidding the furniture, china, etc. things I steer clear from because I know nothing about them and really have no interest in them.

Then there is what I call the people who go after more modern collectibles....Longaberger baskets, Dept. 56, beanie babies, etc. I steer clear of this stuff too because I know there are people that know far more than I do.

I go after the stuff that I know has value and pick up on the cheap. Right now, I am sitting on about 10 Christmas Budweiser Steins from the 1980's....$7 for all 10 of them. After I won the lot, someone walked up to me and said one of them was worth $25-$30 easily but they were disinterested in it.

Also, the strange thing about the church auction is they auction off what I think is all the really good stuff last and by this time most of the dealers are gone and everyone is tired and poor. A few years ago, I picked up a brass powder horn that looks like it is early 1900's and has an Eagle Hallmark so I think it might be German or Austrian. I paid $1 for it because no one else wanted it.

Did alot better on the Tonka Truck than I thought:

1950's TONKA SPORTSMAN TRUCK BOAT TRAILER MOTOR NR MINT - (eBay item 260163092949 end time Sep-29-07 1800 PDT)

The Rocket Launcher got knocked down by Ebay because I was key word spamming with Tonka in the title, so I need to relist it.

I have also made over $300 from other stuff from the same sell. So, after I sell the Rocket Launcher for around $200, I will have grossed over $500 and got the Fire Truck for free!!!!

Good going. We think alike with our funny money.

Church auction is this Friday...I am hoping there will be some good finds there.

It's a great place to find stuff because you have so many people from so many different backgrounds donating items. A lot of it is junk but there are some really generous people and you'd be surprised what some of the older parishoners will donate....some really good colletible stuff.
