An amazing 10 movies nominated for Best Picture Oscar this year

Inglorious Basterds (dumb plot, not historically accurate, no real payoff at the end and the worst accent by an actor in decades from Brad Pitt)

I really loved Inglorious Basterds....I think it's one of the best "plots" ever
rendered in any movie ever....all subplots seamlessly weaving into one another until Shoshana and the Nazi who is wooing her, the Basterds
and Lander, along with all the upper level Nazis (inc. Hitler!)
all meet up at the theatre for the film climax.

Still...your detracting of the plot isn't what really got my attention
in your post...
if you're gonna criticize IG and use the phrase "not historically accurate",
well, that really shows where you're coming from as a judge of this movie.

Anybody who loves IG isn't loving it because of "historical accuracy"
---so it stands to reason that it shouldn't be hated for that reason, eh?

Besides, anyone that believed that film was historically accurate
is either still in grammar school or insane.

As far as "no real payoff" in the end....the main villain
believes he is going to be hailed as a hero and free of going down
in history as a Nazi---and instead he is "marked" forever.
THAT is a cool ending.

I don't want to come off too aggressive here...but I just really loved
IG and wanted to respond to your post with what I thought
were valid points.

I also think Up was great and Avatar was not just a big budget movie. It was actually good, but not great.

I loved Inglourious Basterds as well. I think it's completely insane - but I also think it's also some of the best and most mature filmmaking Tarantino has done. I never guessed what the movie was going to be one minute to the next and it all still worked! Plus, Christoph Waltz' performance was jaw-dropping.

I don't want to give anything away, but I really can't see how you could fault it for not being historically accurate either. It certainly can't be confused for factual reality - it seems to take place during WWII in the same universe as The Dirty Dozen.

The Oscar ratings have been going down because people are tired of watching a bunch of self-congratulating, pontificating, elitist snobs with no sense of morals or values.
Oh and by the way...the 2 movies I was referring to:
District 9 (first half was so dull and convoluted I almost stopped watching it. Not to mention it was totally unbelievable)

But I have to agree that the Oscar scan really blow at times.

The movie Che...starring Benicio del Toro...was completely ignored last year for Oscar consideration.

Let me tell you, Che is a fantastic movie, whether you like or hate the actual Che Guevara...is totally irrelevant...it's a great movie...and Benico del Toro gives out a performance for the ages...the guy is really turning into one of the best actors out there...I was totally impressed by his performance.

What a crying shame both the movie Che...and Benicio del Toro...were simply ignored altogether.

of that list the only one I've seen is Up. District 9 is on my netflix list along with basterds. Zero interest inthe rest, especially Pocahan...I mean Avatar.

OK a co-worker about 20 minutes ago saw and bought District 9 she said I have to see so she's bringing it in for me .I say its for free so I will give it a chance but if it sucks .Im out

That's because its a campy remake of a film that was a contemporary of the unbelivable ww2 film genre (Dirty Dozen, where eagles dare, operation crossbow, kelly's heroes)

Luckily I saw both at the theaters.

I still have them on my Netflix Queue...but good luck in getting them...I have been waiting forever...they always read "very long wait".

I think you'll like it...it's not your typical Hollywood type sci-fi flick.

Interesting - I was a little intimidated by the length of the whole thing - with 2 parts it sort of seemed like a vanity project gone out of control. Maybe I'll give it a shot now!

Watch one DVD one day...watch the other one on a different day...that's what I did.

The first part is set in Cuba...second part in Bolivia.
