around here you gotta have your beans and greens to start up the new year.
That is black eyed peas and collard greens. The peas are for good luck in the new year, and the greens are so's your money stays in your wallet and not someone elses.

      had them both.

I gave my deep fat fryer a good work out. I made chicken wings and cheese fries and mozzarella sticks.

I had some popcorn, a twix bar and a grape soda. My wife is an event planner so she usually isn't home on New Years, so after I put the kids to bed, I snack like an unsupervised kid on Saturday morning.
          It's all good!

My wife made Black-eyed pea soup with nice chunks of ham & bacon among other things, always a winner, I made Southwestern egg rolls w/chicken, black beans, chipotles, onion, cohitja cheese with an avoacado dipping sauce . . . lots o' food to be eaten!

Here in Ohio, our family has pork and kraught, but one of my sisters that moved to Georgia years ago said that folks around there have black eyed peas and greens.

My wife makes chestnuts wrapped in bacon every new years but I'm the only one who doesn't like them. I stick to pizza rolls.

I have to say chestnuts wrapped in bacon sound fantastic!

I made a big vat of chili.

My Mom usually makes her yearly treats for New Years but she went to Atlanta to spend it with my brother and his brood so I missed it this year.

...and I just finished my ham & kraut. As usual, my inability to properly cook anything pork-related meant slicing the ham and finishing in the frying pan. However, the apricot glaze was a winner, and I left the table happy.

yummy! deep fried plantains!!! I love it Ghanaian style.

My sister in law made pumpkin (actually squash) soup with noodles. It was so good...and I made apple pie from scratch.

My husband deep fried some lumpia.

Hot Dogs and sauerkraut for New Year's eve, then pork & kraut with mashed potatoes for New Year's Day dinner. My family has always had this. I remember asking my great-grandmother why we couldn't have turkey & stuffing again like we did for Thanksgiving & Christmas, and she told me that for good luck, you needed to eat the meat of an animal that roots forward, always working for it's providence. Chickens and Turkeys scratch backwards to find their meals, so it was bad luck to eat them for New Year's. The other day I was listening to a bit on the radio about New Year's meals and the announcer told that same story that she'd heard from her grandparents.
