Forgetting for a minute the physical dedication that he clearly puts into his roles (Re: getting ripped to shreds for "Rocky" III and IV and "Rambo" films... gaining 40 lbs to play a loser sheriff in "Copland", getting into top physical condition again at nearly 60 to play Rocky, etc.)... forget all of that for a second.

This is a guy who is incredibly smart and has terrific instincts as an actor, writer, and a director.

The earnestness, honesty, and heart that he puts into his performance while playing Rocky is really pretty amazing to see... even as you go back and look at the earlier films in the series.

One of my favorite moments with Stallone's turn with the character was in the most recent film "Rocky Balboa". It's a lovely scene between him and his son where he dispenses some inspirational wisdom about life. Check out what i mean, and see if you agree:

    .
Great choice Stallone is good and has been in some great films.
Not sure if I agree on him getting ripped for the parts though he is a roid junkie,I Guess he still has to work out though.
But a good actor none the less.I just picked up the Rambo pack dvd set.
First blood(one of my all time favorite movies) Rambo II and Rambo III.
All three in a set for $12 at wally-world.
Also added the newest Rambo to complete the set.(which by the way has got to be one of the most goriest battle scenes ever)
Rocky Balboa is also one of my favorite films. That set is next.

Gene Hackman is a genius that unfortunately is not mentioned with the greats. He deserves to be there though.
Right on!. Also I would mention Ed Harris. I loved the characters he's played, especially Apollo 13.

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...
