Hector you're spot on with your recommendation of Joseph Gordon-Levitt. So underrated. Same goes with Bateman.
Another guy I'd throw into the mix is Ryan Gosling. Watch the movie Half-Nelson and tell me he doesn't own that role. A great, great, underrated performance.

I always thought Gary Oldman was underrated. This guys has played so many different characters that it blows my mind when I sit and think about it. He has played Oswald in JFK, Dracula, Sid Vicious, Beethoven, Dr Smith in Lost in Space, Zorg in Fifth Element. He played the sick rich guy wearing the mask in Hannibal and played Gordon in The newest Batman films.
The one that always did it for me was when he played a white dude that thought he was a black guy in True Romance. Right after he beat the snot out of Christian Slater he looked at his black buddy and says "It aint white boy day is it?" And his friend says, "No it aint white boy day."
Remember...he is a British actor.Last edited by deputypowell; Dec 23, '09, 8:14 PM.Wanted: Slime Sticker PLEASE!Comment

I have not seen 500 Days of Summer...but it has excellent reviews...and it's on my Netflix Queue right now...can't wait to see it.
I used to say to myself...hey...that's the long-haired kid from the TV show, 3rd Rock from the Sun...he's going to be a lightweight actor...but then I saw Brick...and became an instant fan right then and there.

Some of you may find this a strange choice, but i've recently re-discovered Sylvester Stallone in a BIG way as an actor.
Forgetting for a minute the physical dedication that he clearly puts into his roles (Re: getting ripped to shreds for "Rocky" III and IV and "Rambo" films... gaining 40 lbs to play a loser sheriff in "Copland", getting into top physical condition again at nearly 60 to play Rocky, etc.)... forget all of that for a second.
This is a guy who is incredibly smart and has terrific instincts as an actor, writer, and a director.
The earnestness, honesty, and heart that he puts into his performance while playing Rocky is really pretty amazing to see... even as you go back and look at the earlier films in the series.
One of my favorite moments with Stallone's turn with the character was in the most recent film "Rocky Balboa". It's a lovely scene between him and his son where he dispenses some inspirational wisdom about life. Check out what i mean, and see if you agree:

Titanic is part of it, I just can't stand the guy. Like I can't stand Merryl Streep or Barbra Streisand or Woody Allen"...The agony of my soul found vent in one loud, long and final scream of despair..." - Edgar Allan PoeComment

Decaprio was excellent in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape", "The Departed", "Gangs of New York", "Blood Diamond" but has never won an oscar.
Depp has also never won an oscar and like I said he plays some very eccentric characters which I think takes a lot of talent to play the character and pull it off.
As a side note, I have heard that Depp is an extremely nice and genuine person even though someone mentioned that he came across as conceited in an interview.
I work for a pretty well known retailer to anyone who is a musician and have visited our flagship store in Hollywood, CA. There are always musicians, movie stars, etc. showing up to purchase merchandise from the store. I happened to ask the manager who he thought were the biggest jerks to ever walk into the store and the nicest (of the celebrities). The manager told me hands down, Depp was the nicest person to walk into the store. He was purchasing a Christmas present years ago for his son, was not demanding or drawing attention to himself, and very appreciative of the entire staff. To me, that shows a lot of class especially when those type of stories don't hit the newspapers."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."
