I just don't get that. Why would you even want a gun as an honest citizen? I don't have one and I don't feel like I'm missing out. If they would make them legal here I wouldn't buy one, simply don't need one.
I guess it's safe to say I will never agree with anyone of you on this and vice versa
Well, for rifles and shotguns ... that's a whole story in itself ...
Many American's are/were brought up on hunting with their old man.
For many, the rifle is as much as a nostalgia item as a Mego... Sometimes even stronger because it will be passed on to the next generation with way more significance then giving your kid your old GI Joe.
Owning rifles and shotguns are as American as anything else you can think of including McDonalds, hot dogs and lousy beer.
For handguns ... That's a little trickier.
I know a lot of people who are good decent citizens and own muliple handguns including a few doctors, a lawyer and even a female school teacher.
It's not that these people are "packing" to kill someone ... They just appreciate a nice weapon as another collector might appreciate and collect swords...
If we banned guns we would be gladly handing over part of our freedom given to us by our forefathers.
Are we very stubborn ? ... Yes
It's a tough sell trying to convince an American to give up one of his freedoms
Common sense! For Protection from these thugs that Illegally have guns. I live in the LAs Vegas area, we are in a vicious wave of tons of Home Invasions. Over the past few years many lives have been saved due to the homeowner having a gun. If you don't agree, whatever. But I know the facts, many, many were saved because of their firearm. I can tell story after story on friends and family who would no longer be here, but again , they are because of the 2nd Amendment! If you don't want a gun, thats cool, but don't turn into one of those extreme's who wants to remove guns from the good guy, thats like me forcing you to buy a gun. Control is a very evil thing at times. I'm actually picking up another gun this month. Anybody ant to go shooting? LOL
Dude, lighten the **** up, will ya? I'm not forcing you to do anything and I'm by no means an extremist. In case you didn't know I live in Belgium, where guns are illegal and I have no problem with that, I don't want a gun. I just don't get the whole fascination with guns you people have, that'w all I was saying. PERIOD. You don't like what I have to say? See if I care.
Oh, and I bet equal numbers of people get killed because they had a gun and tried to be a hero. It's only money, not worth risking your life over. But again, that's just MY opinion, do whatever the hell you want

To be honest, I love Thomas' opposite viewpoint on this subject.
It makes for good conversation rather than everyone agreeing with eachother.
I'm not opposed to being enlightened by others views -- especially from people who are from different countries that have different customs.

Gun Control really isn't the Issue Thomas... People seem to be jumping on that angle, and really turning the Unfortunate issue into something of a different angle..., look I don't own a Gun, nore probably will ever, but the reality of the Matter is..., This Guy Had a prison Sentence at 1 time of 95 yrs ..., How the F did he get out of Jail ? ... Then his 1st Bail was set at 40,000... and his second bail was set at 150,000 and this Guy still got outta Jail .. Once the Criminal system has these Guys The 1st time,.. let alone the 2nd or 3rd..., they really need to keep them, and Bail should not be set. Here is someone..., who already was in trouble for Assault on a Former Police Officer..., and then Molesting and raping young girls ... , and with the guy's previous convictions, this guy was Obviously a repeat offender, and seriously shoulda been treated as a dangerous Criminal, however was given chance after chance ... imo the Law system needs to seriously be looked at,.. and these types of people should not be given repeated chances .

It also might be because America is like 1,000 times larger than the UK
Of course we have more crime ...
Of course you have a point there Mike, but what wolfie said is basically how we all feel here, it's how we see things. Guns provoce violence. Example:
Store owner gets robbed in Belgium at gun point, he hands over the cash and the robber splits.
Store owner gets robbed in the US at gun point, he pulls his own gun and there's a gun fight. Either the store owner, the robber or both are killed.
