lol I upgrade, but keep all the old stuff. I still play LP's, 8 tracks (it's just too funny to hear that loud CLICK right in the middle of a song lol), and cassettes along with CD's. I have 2 VCRs, but I love my DVD player. I have 2 Atari 2600s and 3 basic NES and a Playstaion (since most of my playstation games are the vintage collection discs I didn't bother getting a PS2 or higher)

But I hate cell phones ... until I have no choice but to get one ... I'm not going near one I HATE THEM!!!

My feelings on video tape and DVD are kind of complex. When it comes to released stuff, DVD's are it everytime for me.

But although I am recorded on DVD myself now, I still don't trust it completely for archiving.

I've had several home burned DVD's gotten in trade go bad just after just a couple years while at the same time I have some Beta tapes that were recorded in 1977 still play fine with nice picture.

Yes, video tape deteriorates but with care it can last a very long time.

There are dies used in recordable DVD's that I am not sure will stand the test of time. RW's use a phase shifting metal and I'm not sure about that either. I have proof that properly cared for, videotapes last at least 30 years.

So, sometimes with stuff I really want to keep, I make a VHS copy in addition to a DVD one. Just in case.

But in general, I think of DVD as a godsend to retrophiles like me. You can seasons of old TV series that cable all but ignores, it takes up less space and you can have value added material that enhances the experience with vintage promos and other stuff.

So, there are reasons to love video tape and DVD. And I still use video tape to make long playing tapes of shows and movies I like when I do computer work. I don't have to worry about changing a disc and I have variety.

But for the full blown, quality presentation, I turn to DVD.

The other nice thing about DVD's are the players are cheap! I just saw a cheap DVD player at Walmart for $25. The funny thing is the cheapie DVD players are more forgiving with the scratches and will play anyway, plus if you take care of the DVD's (put them back in the case after watching it, etc.), you really shouldn't experience the scratching.

As mentioned many DVD's are super cheap $5 for the Batman movie, they take up less space and the picture quality is better.

I am also anti-technology for the most part. I have a cell phone but have a plan where I prepay minutes and use it only for emergencies. I hardly go through $20 worth of phone calls in a 3 month period. I own no ipod and still purchase CD's. I don't have Hi-Def Tv, Digital Cable, or an LCD or plasma screen for that matter. The only thing I have splurged on and love is cable internet service on our home computer.

I used to have a huge VHS collection, the stuff wears out after multiple viewings. Once they started wearing out, and going the way of the dinosaur at stores, I switched. I will never go back to vhs, there is just too much to get on dvd. And as far as scratches go, I've rented stuff that looks like it was used for a frisbee, and it played fine. so a few little scratches won't really affect it.

I finally gave in to Dvd's and now I'm so hooked the extras are the best part.....Plus some of my favorite B movies are on Dvd now and they look great.Plus they take up less room. I gave my Dad most of my Vhs tapes he doesn't like Dvd's....But I still own two vcr's lol!

For the most part I hate Cell phones but have a simple one so my wife can check up on me lol!...not an Ipod fan...Have no desire to download music.

I'm old school I like Lp's plus my cousin is a Dj in Florida and I'm always on the lookout for old school beats for him.
