Why did I never watch Starsky and Hutch ?

I was rewatching the pilot tonight. The showe opened with a couple in a clone of Starsky's car getting shot (obvoiusly a back up car from the show supply) and the cops think it was a miss by hitmen looking for Starsky. While in reality it was another year before S& H gran torino's were sold in ford's showrooms the intention is clear to show that while a distinctive car it isn't sclusively Starsky - Pretty smart writing -
he may say that now but I doubt it. The show cars were all stock 351 v-8 gran torinos with a new paint job. The are sled (basically the late 70's LTD2 and T birds and 80's crown vicotrias are evolved from the gran torino). They have alot of play in the shocks and sway in the suspension. They don't handle very well at speed (their better on the straight away) and he isn't a trained driver so it isn't hard to smash up a car like that even at 45 mph in a cornering slide.Leave a comment:

I loved the show as a kid. I would watch an episode and go play in my mom's 73 Torino (blue, unfortunately). I still like it today although some episodes haven't aged as well as others. In fact, I have a 74 Torino that will become a S and H clone in the future.
And I even liked the movie.

that's why the show went on for yearsTaxi became an acquired taste in later years....
Primarily once Reverend Jim Ignatowski joined.
But as a kid, I think it was the depressing theme song that just set things off...and those early episodes had that John guy and Latka and I'm NOT a big fan of Latka.
So Christopher Lloyd was a welcome addition and finally brought sunshine to the Sunshine Cab Co. IMO.

Same hereI watched this regularly on Tuesday nights if I recall back in the 70s. Happy Days @ 8:00followed by Laverne & Shirley and Three's Company....THEN the dreaded Taxi @ 9:30. My brother and I hated Taxi and struggled to stay awake through it just so we could get to 10:00 and Starsky and Hutch. He almost always DIDN'T make it.
Taxi didn't fit the line-up

Another thing I just noticed ...
Their police station's exterior changed between season's 1 and 2
In season 1 it looked like a common office building.
In season 2 it was that old cement police station used in many movies and TV shows including Alien Nation The TV series.Leave a comment:

I was a real late comer to this series, it used to run after "Battle of the Planets" so I'd always catch the starting before going for supper. As an adult I really began to appreciate it.
Does anyone have all the episodes, I remember one that took place in a toy store, I'd love to get that.Leave a comment:

Actually, probably trying to give Kauffman more to do (and keep his mouth shut, since I heard on several occasions, he wasn't happy on the set stuck playing a 'foreign guy' with a silly accent for what could be a few years..), the writers wrote in that 'Vic Ferrari' character that Latka lapsed into on occasion.
Now Vic Ferrari was much funnier than Latka ever was..!

In the pilot, Captain Dobey was played by the guy who played Steve Martin's father in the Jerk.
He's got that really gruff voice.Leave a comment:

i read that glaser always took whatever opportunity he had to wreck the torino! crash into walls, sideswipe other cars, etc...Leave a comment:

If I remember correctly, the mom thought Starsky and Hutch was a little too "Rock and Roll" for me at the time. But I always watched Adam 12, Emergency and stuff like that. I did record the S&H pilot when it was on cable and liked it but never really had a chance to check out the series.
I thought the movie was good as spoofs like that go.Leave a comment:

Same here. I somehow saw every other show at the time but never S & H.
When the movie came out and the yput the first season on DVD I decided to give it a try. It was actually fun to not just "relive" something I'd seen before but view it fresh eyes. I ended up buying all four seasons.Leave a comment:
