I didn't say aliens weren't beleivable...merely in my opinion, aliens and Indy don't mix. I enjoy Indy films when they mix real history with earthly supernatural events. A nice blend of factual history and fictional adventure, but that just me.
In my other posts, I do compliment Skull for some lines and scenes. Here's the thing, some people liked Skull because it was Indiana Jones and because Harrison Ford was back in action! OK, I can see that. Ford is my favorite modern screen actor.
But here's something that's crossed my mind quite a bit over recent years...
Being a Star Trek fan, I know a few Trekkies who loved Voyager and Enterprise because they were part of Star Trek canon! But overall, those shows lacked the quality of story and writing of their predecessors. Arguable, of course, but that is the opinion of the majority I've spoken with and I happen to agree.
Being a Star Wars fan, I almost attended a convention a few years back with Mark Hamill in New Jersey...until I found out he was charging $100 for his autograph!
My point... there will always be those circles within any fandom that are populated with sheep. Lead them anywhere, they'll follow and dare not complain because they worship these films, actors, directors, whatever.
Sorry, but when filmmakers start off great, build up a loyal fan base, then get lazy over time and produce crap to "milk and bilk" those very same fans who made them rich, the fans should make it known and not just continue follow it.
Hamill's autograph...$100? I think not. I've paid far less for in person autographs from actors with far more impressive careers. But fans went, and fans paid.
Not saying that anyone here is like these "sheep" but personally, I was hoping for more out of Crystal Skull than what Lucas and Speilberg put into it. The old charm was gone. Even the test audiences were not overly impressed before its release. Will I buy it on DVD? Nope. I just wasn't that impressed, just like I won't buy Star Trek: Generations or Nemesis or Transformers 2.
Will I go see Indy 5? Absolutely!
