    Chris Reeves kinda did.

That's what i was looking for when returns came out and although it has it's moments I absolutely have a hard time sitting through the whole thing.
Singer made a mess of it....

This generation wants a Bad *** I will kick your *** version of Superman not hey lois let's fly around metropolis and quit smoking version..kinda sick of that!

Let's see Superman Beat the **** out of Darkseid, Braniac,Doomsday!! i don't mind Luthor But can we freeking get away from Boring *** real estate land wanting freekin luthor and let's get mad scientist billionaire Luthor who Totally wants to destroy Superman!!

    end rant

I agree with almost ALL of the above... I want a George Reeve-like Superman with a more impressive Alex Ross build. I want a capable Clark (like Reeve).

I really believe that this would work today... and I disagree that the Uber Bad-asteroid Supes would be dark...

I'm just asking for a ramped up George Reeve type Supes but in today's larger than life (thanks to CGI and other special effects). Gone would be the gangsters and in their place, the villains of the DC pantheon.. (to quote another unrelated show... we HAVE the technology ... we can REBUILD the franchise)..

I don't think this is necessarily just "the Superman of my youth either". I watched George as a little kid and Chris when I was in high school/college. While both had their merits, I always felt Chris' interpretation lacked the subtle machismo of George's version.

Yeah, bring on Brainiac, Luthor, Darkseid, Parasite etc....

A more imposing, slightly older Supes (joined in progress after several years in his character) could handle it.... give him the confidence and presence that Chris/Brandon lacked and Supes would be cool (or is it kewl now?) again ....

      The thing with Superman.

He can kick anybody's butt in one second.

He can kill anybody in one second ...

He literally could kill the planet in one second.

With all these abilities, he's got to be the overgrown boyscout.

He must be Arnold in Kindergarten Cop

All those abilities and "badass" just don't go together.

When I mean badass I mean acting like a man like George Reeves Superman was.....I don't want a Boyscout that's a little boy Superman should be a Marine!

This is what i mean about Superman being a badass and not taking crap!

          Totally Agree!!!
Wanted to add one more thing. Superman carries Authority with him Like a King or a President. Or like When you were a kid and were acting up and suddenly you heard your Dad's footsteps and as he walked in the room and he just gave you that look and you knew you were in for it.............That's what Superman should have

The "Reeve" Supes is either the exact one or very close to the one
            that's been appearing on
reruns for decades since the Reeve movies' original release and
stood even HIGHER as "iconic" SUPERMAN from Reeve's injury up until his death.

It's the same breed SUPERMAN/CLARK that Shuster/Seigel concieved
            of way back when.

It's the Superman that resembles the Timm/Dini one that's was kickin' butt
for most of the past years that fans young and old have been watching
Supes in animated form on T,V.

The question I pose back to YOU is who besides hardcore older comicbook
readers like yourself (and others on this board) and their fanboy supporters
even know there IS a more even keel Clark/Supes that appeared in some
George T.V. shows, wayoldschool FLEISCHER cartoons,
            and Alex Ross comic books?

I mean, I know there's some...but they are far out numbered
by the kind of fan, I'm talking about....i.e. the "lighter"
boyscout Supes who is sharply meeker in his Kent persona.

Yeah, well, if that badass can't compress himself into a Clark
that is belivably different enough from Supes...say goodbye to any success
a live action Superman franchise will have

It's nice for cool paintings in comicbooks that try to put
a darker serious slant on Supes/Clark---but it won't work on
            the big screen live version.
But since YOU say it won't work...that means it WILL work in real life.

            Thanks for giving me hope.

I want a NICE Lois (Noel Neil style)
I want Clark Kent to be cool and respected by everyone.
I want the movie set in the 50's (see reason below)
I want Superman to have a sense of humour.

I want it set in the 50's because ....
Unlike the Reeves series where he mostly goes after gangsters, the 50's also opens up great possible Cold War storys.

I'm always trying to set a Superman movie up in a past time other then our modern era.
I don't think he fits very well into modern times - and rather then change him to suit the times, i'd rather change the times to suit him.
I see many things wrong here.

If they diminish Superman's powers...like you mentioned before...jumping instead of flying...faster than a locomotive and not light speed...and strong...but not outwardly strong...then it might work...

...but if it's the same all powerful Superman...it will not work.

An alien being who's faster than the speed of light, able to move mountains...fight against 50s era gangsters with guns? Come on...that would be ridiculous to say the least...lol.

You also want Supes to have a sense of humor?

Now you want him to be Spider-Man...lol.

                Come on now...

Singer made a mess of it.

Every Generation had their own Superman with no connection to the past Superman except for cameos.

Pierre Watkins who played Perry White in the movie seriels appeared on Adventures of Superman as a bad guy and was set to take over as Perry's brother when John Hamilton suffered a stroke and died unexpectedly. Reeves death ended any chances for a seventh season.

Kirk Alyn and Noel Neill had cameos in The first Superman movie.
Jack Larson and Noel Neill in Superman Returns

Singer was in love with recreating his childhood Superman. Sorry but i didn't want to see Chris Reeve being recreated I have that version already.

I want to create a time-machine so I can give it to Mike...then he'll transport himself back in time...destroy the machine...and get stuck in either the 50s or 70s...whichever era makes him happier at the moment of time travel.

I just don't want Superman to be made into a modern Batman clone.

                        Superman deserves better
