Brandon Routh no longer under contract for Supes!

    http://www.moviehole.net/200919730-r...uperman-sequel

Cinema's most recent Clark Kent says he thinks Warner Bros should give his (or rather Bryan Singer's) ''Superman'' series a second chance - despite the first film underperforming at the box office - just as they did Christopher Nolan's Batman films (and we all know how that turned out!).

Brandon Routh tells Omelete (via ThinkMcFlyThink) that if fellow superhero pic ''The Dark Knight'' proved anything, it's that a sequel can be bigger, better and more successful than the film it follows. Though Bryan Singer's ''Superman Returns'' (2006) was only a moderate hit, and Warner Bros would've liked it to have done better, the actor - and why wouldn't he? - believes there's both room for improvement and a chance at even greater success next time around. And I can't help but agree - if the action can be ramped up, a good villain can be introduced, and the film's less interested in emulating the Dick Donner movies and instead being it's own beast, it could be great.

Unfortunately, says Routh, his contract has expired - so legally, he's no longer wearing the 'Man of Steel' badge. He'd have to be re-approached. But if that day comes, he wouldn't "think twice" about donning the tights again.

So in short, Routh says :

    - He knows nothing about the status of the "Superman" film franchise

    - He is no longer under contract to play the role

    - "Superman Returns" didn't work as well as it could've because it lacked action

    - Would definitely return to the role if he's asked back.

Recent rumours suggested Warner Bros might be looking at 'rebooting' the "Superman" series - again.

im not surprised Routh is outta this as of now the production had alot of problems, first off all I dont blame Bryan Singer he's a brilliant director but he was present at the auditions what he was thinking when he gave the go ahead to cast Routh is beyond me he's a a great looking guy but he can't act ,just because he looked a little like Christopher Reeve is not enough Reeve could act the camera does not lie,for good sakes Routh was bartending just a few years back in west hollywood he should have been going to drama school rather then auditions in LA.he just does not have it.as for Kevin Spacey now theirs a real actor but he didnt work as Lex Luthor that one is debateble?.the script was also so so? but not great.they should have probably just did the story from the begining

I just watched the movie for the first time on cable today. I thought it was okay, not a blockbuster, but better than Superman 4. I saw it as an origin movie (at least the closest they could come with Superman). Like so many others, it needed too much screen time to explain what happened. A sequel would allow more time for action. And if Spacey came back as Lex, it could be one heck of a movie.

Anything is better than Superman III or IV. As much as I look up to Chris Reeve as a hero and a personal inspiration to me since I was 7 years old, I just cannot bring myself to watch the last two Superman films.

I liked Routh. He did very well. Spacey was fantastic. However, Kate Bosworth failed as Lois Lane for me. She did not have the spunk and charm of Margot Kidder.

He had as much personality as Superman Returns -- which no NONE ... I'm glad he's gone

"Returns" was a lousy forgery of Christopher Reeve movie .. and Routh was a lousy forgery of Chris Reeve.

They should make a new Superman movie and start from scratch.

I thought he was pretty good but I agree Kate Bosworth did not fit the role. I think the movie tanked because it was too talky. they need to make a movie where Supes has a real nemesis....ala Zod or Doomsday, so there is lots of action.

I liked Returns, but it did lack action. Routh had potential, but wasn't given enough to do. However, with the mistake of having him have a child, it might be best to reboot. That's a tough corner to be painted into.

I just hope if they eventually do a reboot, it won't be super dark... that's one thing for a character in which the tone fits (and even there, it CAN be overdone), but with Superman.... well.... I would prefer not...

Superman Returns was more than a disappointment. It set back any real hopes for a meaningful return for the Man of Steel. If you want to examine this just from a business perspective consider this - Before 'Superman Returns' there had been no movie about the character since 1987. If there is truly a market for any character, then a 20 year absence surely should have built enough interest to garner big revenue on a new movie. Superman Returns should have represented a fresh start completely divorced from the original series (like Batman did). Warner Bros made a horrid decision not only to keep the storyline similar, but to suggest the new movie was a SEQUEL to Superman II made 27 years earlier!!! Dreadful mistake. This not only forced comparisons with the original theatrical series, but also demanded continuity in character development from those movies, which director Singer did a dreadful job of following. Then to unwrap a similar storyline from the original classic about Lex Luthor and his cravings for real estate seemed impossibly predictable. We waited 20 years for a rehash of an old storyline played by different actors giving karaoke performances of the original portrayals? I honestly don't see how another Superman film can be made unless the studio completely removes everyone associated with that project and promises a new legacy for the character. Would you have seen Batman Begins if you knew Schumacher was directing another installment?

I liked almost everything about SUPERMAN RETURNS, including Routh's performance.

Ironically, one of the things I liked best about SR was the thing that I still
would've probably left out myself...the "super son" thing.

The reason why I liked it is because I thought it was a thouroughly
original and apt part of being the "sequel" to II.

However, DEALING WITH IT in the sequel to SR, etc. is just TOO much
to handle in a SUPERMAN MOVIE.

Ahhh---SR----was just too ambitious for it's own good.

The only things I really disliked about it were
Bosworth's Lois and the repitition of the drawn out blackout scenes.

                          I enjoyed the film.

Good, this means Singer is out, too. That movie was one big mess. The Donner love fest got old really quick.
