However, keep ADAM SANDLER a billion feet away from my SUPES movie...
or ANY movie I'm involved with for that matter.

I'd sure like to know where all these people are that are clamoring for a Chris Reeve style movie. Anyone I know that is of the generation after me have zero interest in the old Reeve films.

          No more geeky/pretty boy Superman's.

We need Alex Ross' badass version...

            Basically....ALL OF EM DO!

The "Reeve" Supes is either the exact one or very close to the one
            that's been appearing on
reruns for decades since the Reeve movies' original release and
stood even HIGHER as "iconic" SUPERMAN from Reeve's injury up until his death.

It's the same breed SUPERMAN/CLARK that Shuster/Seigel concieved
            of way back when.

It's the Superman that resembles the Timm/Dini one that's was kickin' butt
for most of the past years that fans young and old have been watching
Supes in animated form on T,V.

The question I pose back to YOU is who besides hardcore older comicbook
readers like yourself (and others on this board) and their fanboy supporters
even know there IS a more even keel Clark/Supes that appeared in some
George T.V. shows, wayoldschool FLEISCHER cartoons,
            and Alex Ross comic books?

I mean, I know there's some...but they are far out numbered
by the kind of fan, I'm talking about....i.e. the "lighter"
boyscout Supes who is sharply meeker in his Kent persona.

Yeah, well, if that badass can't compress himself into a Clark
that is belivably different enough from Supes...say goodbye to any success
a live action Superman franchise will have

It's nice for cool paintings in comicbooks that try to put
a darker serious slant on Supes/Clark---but it won't work on
            the big screen live version.

^^^ If ALL OF THEM did, the movie would have been the biggest grosser of all time and we'd already have that sequel. Insted DC/Warner is doing a reboot ala Marvel's rework of the Hulk and the Punisher. I personally don't want to see any more wishy washy Chris's or Brandon's on the screen. That goes double for that Smallville wimp.

I actually liked Routh in SR and thought he did a decent job following the desire of his director/screenwriter which was to model Chris Reeve. The story as a sequel to donner's superman 2 was not bad if 25 years and 2 films to late but Singer's abilities didn't shine. I expected more from the man who brought The Usual Suspects to the screen

I am not in the camp for a Ross inspired musclebound Superman for a couple reasons -
1 - since we publicly deride athletes for roids lets not make the most iconic hero of children one too
2 - as an alien Superman's stregth is not directly tied to his muscle size as compared to a human - this is what made George reeves and Chrs Reeve work. so an athletic build is good but Arnold's build isn't
3 - Superman should be perpetually "35", you enough for most movie asdience adults to connect with and old enough for a kid to see a bit of their dad in. Ross's current designs look like he's 45-50 on roids

Yeah, I personally wouldn't want Superman to look like an angry, retired baseball player. lol. I'm one of the minority who really enjoyed Superman Returns. I will admit they should have gone another route with the kid. It made Superman not be the last son of Krypton.
                    It's all good!

Superman Returns was a good movie for what it was. But it wasn't what the public (or Warners) wanted. It's kind of like "Bridges of Madison County". Good movie, but most guys don't like it, because Clint Eastwood wasted time making it, and not a manly film. They want Unforgiven, and Gran Torino.

As much as I love the first Reeve movie (it's my favorite movie, period.), Returns was way too occupied with writing a love letter to it. One nod or two would have been more than enough.

Routh did a fine job with what he was given. Unfortunately, he was essentially asked to play Chris Reeve playing Superman. Not fair to him.

You KNOW that's not a fair assessment.

I already said that RETURNS went too far WITHIN that context.

If Singer would've just put a more "normal" Reeve-like movie out
I'm standing by that it WOULD have been an overall success.

Do you want me just to say it?

"Even though I liked SUPERMAN RETURNS a LOT...Singer put out a nutso movie!"

The "nutso" had NOTHING to do with the Reeve-ish tone.

I don't think that the character needs to be "wishy washy" ALL THE WAY---I mean, I'm sure even if they went the direction that "I'd" prefer and kept
it closer to meek boyscout/slick boyscout---they'd still toughen him up a bit
because they are SCARED of duplication accusations now.

Singer had a CHANCE not to blow that and he blew it, it looks like.

                        Oh well.

I wholeheartedly agree with all that.

                          Dang.

Hey, I'm not asking for much here.

I didn't even really enjoy the Nolan/Bats stuff all that much.
I liked SUPES RETURNS much MUCH better.

                          STILL
I'm willing to settle for Nolan/Bats type success even if I don't like
the new SUPES that much PERSONALLY.
(I'm not really sure what kind of SUPES movie THAT would be tho!)

I don't care WHAT I think of the next SUPES movie...as long
as it doesn't get drug through the mud like it is here in this thread and
can lead to multiple sequels with essentially the same "team"---like all
                          good superhero franchises should.

I would hate to see a Ross inspired Superman.

If I could have a wish come true, it would be a new Superman movie loosly based on the George Reeves series.

I want a NICE Lois (Noel Neil style)
I want Clark Kent to be cool and respected by everyone.
I want the movie set in the 50's (see reason below)
I want Superman to have a sense of humour.

I want it set in the 50's because ....
Unlike the Reeves series where he mostly goes after gangsters, the 50's also opens up great possible Cold War storys.

I'm always trying to set a Superman movie up in a past time other then our modern era.
I don't think he fits very well into modern times - and rather then change him to suit the times, i'd rather change the times to suit him.

Your well-thought out plan for a Superman movie is appealing---
it has charm/charisma---I'm just not sure how well it would do
                              as a live-action flick.

EDITED TO ADD: ALSO, it's ironic your downing the carbon copy fanboy
shot at Chris' Supes (RETURNS) when YOURS is a carbon copy fanboy version of George's

Funny thing about the ALEX ROSS Supes vs. GEORGE REEVES Supes
due to their beefier builds and more mature look, as well as edgier Kents,
I actually saw many SIMILLARITIES between the two.

Of course I understand more now that there are some distinct differences
between the two---maybe even more differences than simillarities.

I have to admit--there DOES come a point where my limited Superman knowledge compromises the "value" of my opinions, but I try my best
                              to not talk without grounds.

As Cool as this would be to the Generation that grew up and loved George Reeves Superman this just wouldn't work now IMO.

Elements of it would like a no nonsense approach that George's Superman had. Crashing into walls, manhandling bad guys, One thing I did like about Reeves Superman is he never looked like he would get punked......where as
                                Chris Reeves kinda did.

That's what i was looking for when returns came out and although it has it's moments I absolutely have a hard time sitting through the whole thing.
Singer made a mess of it.

Every Generation had their own Superman with no connection to the past Superman except for cameos.

Pierre Watkins who played Perry White in the movie seriels appeared on Adventures of Superman as a bad guy and was set to take over as Perry's brother when John Hamilton suffered a stroke and died unexpectedly. Reeves death ended any chances for a seventh season.

Kirk Alyn and Noel Neill had cameos in The first Superman movie.
Jack Larson and Noel Neill in Superman Returns

Singer was in love with recreating his childhood Superman. Sorry but i didn't want to see Chris Reeve being recreated I have that version already.
