The Begins and TDK, are a real departure, more balanced, completely different feel. . . more story driven. But I could be completely wrong and misguided as usual though!

You're not "completely" wrong.

The 80/90s movie Bats DID border on campy but they were an amalgam
of what had become HIGHLY successful in FRANK MILLERS graphic DK novel
plus the camp left over from West's show...but then Schumacher's FAILED
because they dipped too far from the "eventual Nolan path" (trashing
anything Burton achieved in the process, ergo "reboot")

Like I said earlier, it was a gradual swing towards 2005's BATMAN BEGINS
which you hold in high regard as a successful reboot....which it WAS, but it
was mostly based on Batman's longtime dark brooding origins----it was
not something "completely new", rather something hugely crystalized,
something that totally matched up with the majorities perception
of what BATMAN in 2009 should be based on his most enjoyed part of his past.

SUPERMAN needs that SAME care.

And totally obliterating the most highly loved description of the Supes myth
I've been commenting on in my last few posts would be a misstep
akin to getting Schumacher to take over for Nolan.

If anything, Singer deserves another shot. At least he understands the
public's connection to the Bronze Age media Supes, even if he fumbled
it for the general public in SR.

Nope, not misguided, at all.

In fact, on a graph, I think Supes and Bats, be it Television or the Big Screen chart a very similar course, except Supes needs a hit along the lines of Batman Begins/The Dark Knight. (Bats 1989-Clooney is very comparable to Supes 1-4).

Strikes and gutters, in the parlance of our times.

Bats is on a streak, and in all honesty, the last two Bats movies are the only DC movies I truly love.... when I can divorce a movie from the age I was at the time I saw it. Bats 1989-Clooney......I won't even stop going through the channels when any of those are on. To put it in perspective, Twister merits a sit down for a scene or two. I love Supes I and II, but that is from a nostalgia aspect...give me a long-weekend of 50 movies and neither would remotely approach the list. Supes 3 and 4...very comparable to Kilmer and Clooney.

For me, DC movies lag behind Marvel, but neither company produced skwat until Spider-Man.

Familiarity equals Yawnfest . . . hence the SR not doing so well. . . when it should of knocked one out of the ball park.

It missed knocking the ball out of the park because of "super kid",
"a namby pamby Lois", and "too many DIRECT CONNECTIONS to the Reeve movies".

The audience WANTED a Superman simillar to Reeve's....the problem is
that Singer took THAT and ran with it in all the WRONG directions.

He made decisions based on his heart....which was nice...
but more thought should've been put into the ramifications of that.

Do you think the Batman Begins/Dark Knight was unsuccessful? It moved completely away from the familiar. . . .and TDK kicked A@S!!!!

The Batman has ALWAYS been a darker more brooding
character....save for a bit of odd time in the 60s.

West's Batman thru to Burton's Batman thru to Tim/Dini's Batman
to Nolan's Batman (all the successful Batman's since West) were
a gradual build to what we'll have in a third (hopefully successful)
Nolan Batman movie....the "right" Batman which was darker as he SHOULD be.

BOTTOM LINE---------DON'T MESS with the familliar Kent/Supes
as meek boyscout/slick boyscout combo----you're asking for FAILURE.

Mike's ideas might make a good respectable DC ANIMATED DVD one off.

However,
that concept as a live-action-movie would put the

in a worse hole than SUPERMAN RETURNS would or COULD ever have.

This whole "like George Reeves" as opposed to "like Chris Reeve"
concept spoken heartily about here at MM is a bad gamble to make.

The lack of disparity between the "George's Kent/Supes" does not bode nearly
as entertaining as a "meeker Kent/confident Supes" does for full-fledged entertaining movie.

Even the highly respected "Nolan" Batman went out of it's way in BEGINS
to have Alfred lecture Wayne on making Wayne carefree in
order to offset the Batman/Wayne connection...and that was a script choice
made for the very reason I'm expounding upon here.
