My grandparents and later my parents had an old response to dumb questions (or questions they didn't know the answer to) which I still use occasionally. It goes something like this:

"Why are you doing that?" - Response: "To keep the water outta the celler".

"But there's no water in the celler!" - Response: "See, it's working".


But the ones I still use most commonly are:

"Don't make me come over there and hurt you!'
