Pizza Fridays in Elementary School

Anyway, I never had pizza in grade school. I went to P.S. 28 in NYC, and we NEVER had pizza, period.

You really did not miss much as far as the pizza was concerned. It was edible I suppose. Barely though.

instead of the usual square pizza slices, we sometimes had baguette halves with the pizza toppings and sauce. rounded bottom. looks like a boat!

My son 's in grade school and every Friday is pizza day....he hates the sauce

Never heard of it in junior high but once in high school it was pizza day every day!

We used to have Pizza Friday in my school too.
After you ate, they would call "doubles" if anyone wanted to go up and buy an extra piece.
It was pretty nasty pizza.
Just rectangular frozen pizza that would give you heartburn for the rest of the day.

My fav day was pork roll, egg and cheese on soft roll Tuesdays.

I remember pizza Fridays in Maryland. When we moved to PA for two years it was only pizza Friday once a month! Attendance was always better on those days.
As a kid I didn't like pizza, but school pizza was so far from the real thing that I liked it.

Everyone always looked forward to the rectangular pizza. It wasn't really very good, but at the time seemed awesome. Especially compared to the other stuff they usually had. Loved it. I'd eat a piece right now.

Oh yeah, the worst pizza in the world but everyone wanted it and looked forward to it.
Rectangular pizza with pepperoni. I don't recall there ever being a choice of toppings or even a plain cheese option.
You wouldn't think it could get worse?
Well when I moved to Arizona (from Buffalo) they also had pizza day. Well, that's what they called it! Who puts cheddar cheese and ground beef on pizza?????? BLECCH!!

That's called a pizza sub my friend! (well if you put the other half of bread on it anyway). Mike's Subs in Buffalo makes a good one!

Nacho day was my favorite. My gf and I ironically just went to Pizza Hut yesterday and tried one of their new Panormous pizza's. I highly recommend it as it was really good.

Pizza Friday's, even in public schools, is definitely a Catholic influence, especially in the Northeast, where lots of people don't eat meat on Fridays, even outside of Lent. Fish Sticks was usually the other option we had, and we always had two, at least in Middle and High School.
