Because I started this thread, I almost had pizza with tater tots and chocolate milk for dinner and then came to my senses
I remember the tator tots being really good. The chocolate milk must have helped wash down the nasty after taste of the pizza. Maybe that is how we all survived eating that stuff.

I loved that pizza I did have friends that use to take off all the cheese and sauce and just eat the bread

Really when you look back and think about it. It wasn't too awfully bad for a $1.00 a lunch. I do not even know what school lunches are up to these days. It would be nice to see $1.00 lunches again.

That still is not bad. I was going to guess something like $5.00 the way everything keeps going up. Thanks for the info. I was kind of curios about that as I have no kids and am not in the school loop at all.

Absolutely every Wednesday from grade 1-grade 12 was Hamburger Day.
Hamburgers, chips, pickles, cookie and milk was the announcement.
We lined up by:
Mustard and everything.
Mayonnaise and everything.
Special order.
I always wanted mine no tomato and my friend was a Mayonnaise, meat and bread guy.

I had NEVER heard of putting mayonnaise on a HAMBURGER till I moved to AZ. I was at a Sonic and ordered a hamburger and they asked me if I wanted that with or without mayo and I was like, "Who the hell puts mayo on a hamburger?!"
Gotta be a west coast thing? UGH!

I have heard of and seen peeps using mayonnaise on their burgers from time to time. I tried it once. It wasn't too bad. I am still a Ketchup or BBQ sauce kind of guy though.

I also grew up in Maryland and remember rectangle pizza Friday. It also seemed that there was certain day for burgers (Monday maybe?)
We always refer to pizza boats as French Bread Pizza.
I don't know if anyone else experienced this but we had a complete spazzoid lunch monitor. She carried a whistle and would blow the whistle for a 5 minute warning and again when it was time to leave. One of the worst things you could do at my school was pop a brown lunch sack or milk carton.
On the rare occassion it happened, everyone would stop talking and yell "AWWWWWW" until the crazed lunch lady found the culprit and quickly sent him to the office (I say him because I don't remember any girls ever doing this).
I think lunches are still relatively inexpensive. I think my kids pay $3 maybe. I think the government still subsidizes lunches.
