    My list would be ....

    1. Janis Joplin ... If she didn't dye, today most people wouldn't even remember who she was.

    2. Led Zeppelin ... A great band with a unique sound, but so was a million other 70's rock groups.

    3. Jimmi Hendrix ... --see Joplin

    4. Frank Sinatra ... He mostly talks his way through his songs .. I still haven't figure out why most people love him so much.

    5. The Doors ... I like the Doors, but I just don't think they're that good and like Joplin and Hendrix, I believe if Morrison didn't die their status today as rock royalty would be totally gone... BTW, IMO Morrison's singing voice wasn't all that great ... It almost reminds me of Bill Murray doing the nightclub performer.
Hey Type1Kirk, I'm glad to find something we agree on (we don't see the new ST movie the same). The groups you listed are way overblown (with the possible exception of Zeppelin, although I'm not a big fan). I would add Foreigner. You can write the lyrics for most of their song on a matchbook. Agreed... I don't even get that one.

My votes are for AC DC & Kiss . I can't stand either one.

Some of the other people mentioned above ........

Bob Dylan ... very over-rated, imo ... I think his status is so high because he was one of the original singer-songwriters ...... No different then Paul Simon, but I don't see Simon's name paraded around so often ......

Nirvana ....... Kurt killed himself at the perfect time (while they were still popular) ... If he never did, he'd be another Axel Rose today.

More over-rated dead people --- which I think their deaths made them more popular today then what they should have been.

I think William Shakespeare, Ludwig Beethoven, Albert Einstein and Jesus are ALL overrated. I don't care that any of them were pioneers in their field--I think they stink so that's the end of it.

having seen Kiss in concert that blew me away, i think it was Cobain's suicide that was the deciding factor, I'm the type of guy that as soon as someone says "if you don't like this band your a moron." well i end up hating the band. Nirvana fell under that catagory.

Even though I never liked KISS, I wouldn't put them in my over-rated catagory.

Jim Croce??? Wow, that guy was amazing. He would have been even bigger if it wasn't for the plane crash.

Mike, seriously...I think you are doing this on purpose to have people going, lol.

                                It's cool...you are fun.

Regarding Frank Sinatra...he had a GREAT voice, and had GREAT delivery...very fluid singer. Many try to imitate him, and they fail miserably.

Listen to him in his prime, the dude was magnificent.

I love Frank Sinatra, great voice, great music.
