Farewell Bettie. Generations of fans will miss you.

The man who helped in her resurgence in the 1980's, Dave Stevens, creator of the Rocketeer, also passed away last year.

10 years ago they did a feature on her for a news segment on the Playboy Channel. They interviewed Buck Henry, co-creator of Get Smart, and he revealed that he knew her when...and still carries a picture of her in his wallet.

Classic beauty. She somehow combined sex and even bondage and still came across as the innocent girl next door...who's secretly freaky.

I remember a few years back she came forward in interviews and kind of reclaimed her name. Many artists were making lots of money off of Bettie with no compensation for her.

Yup, I have her complete set of Film shorts from Irving Klaw. I also knew his sister Paula who knew Bettie. In my late teens early twenties I would go on Saturdays to the Movie Star news and ask her a million questions about Bettie. She would always Tease me that I was in love with an old woman....

Bettie was so cool. I picked up a few comics featuring her at a convention. I've always wanted to see someone base Zatanna artwork on her. She would have been perfect, and was even into fishnets.

About 15 years ago I bought a hardback book direct from Playboy about Bettie. Hef guaranteed that they were signed by her in an exclusive deal. She wished to remain in the shadows and would only do things for Hef. A Classic Natural Beautiful woman.

The movie is called the Notorious Bettie Page...starring Gretchen Mol.

They made her up to kinda look like Page...but it's all movie magic.

This is what Gretchen Mol really looks like:

As you can see...she ain't no Bettie Page.

I'm amazed that news of Bettie's passing did not get mentioned on either of the major comic book websites (Newsarama or Comic Book Resources). With Dark Horse Comics still pumping out Bettie merchandise every month, not to mention the Rocketeer connection, it's hard to believe this gets no comic book press. MSN, CNN, and Yahoo covered it on the front of their news pages.

But if Grant Morrison peed his panties at the NYCC they'd create a seperate message board just for the condolences, along with forty-five slideshows of the act. Absurd.
