MSN, CNN, and Yahoo covered it on the front of their news pages.

But if Grant Morrison peed his panties at the NYCC they'd create a seperate message board just for the condolences, along with forty-five slideshows of the act. Absurd.
it might have to do alot with the fact that Bettie is really adult material and not really comic book.

She's closely associated with The Rocketeer but really nothing else. So i don't see why they would cover her.

She was a hottie for sure, RIP Bettie.
Friend of mine is a huge fan, hated bringing her the bad news yesterday

First Bettie Page, then Van Johnson, I wonder who'll be next... they always go in threes

Well, maybe this would explain a little:

        Search :: Dark Horse Comics

note the "See all 130 products" tag. The comics industry is closely tied to Bettie Page and will continue to be for some time. Comics brought Bettie to the attention of the media again, enough to produce a couple films about her life. Without the ongoing promotion, I doubt that she would have been as well-remembered as she is.

And I don't believe Bettie is totally adult material. Yes, there's all that S&M bondage photo stuff (and that was an act- Bettie was not that- in fact she was very religious). But that is my least favorite part of the Bettie Page gallery...there is also a great deal of innocent, playful Bettie. IMHO, the best Bettie art & photos project that "Look how much fun this is optimism" image. Aside from the Klaw stuff, she mostly projects a positive image.

Here's a nifty online Bettie comic Dark Horse Comics has with art by Russ Heath:

There's also some Bettie games online there as well.

Dark Horse caters to a more adult crowd. Not so much to kiddies. All that merchandise is for adults. Bettie was 50's cheesecake but was very risque for that time.Irving Klaw did get in trouble for distributing and selling photos. It looks innocent because we were exposed to more hardcore images. Also Bettie did do spread leg shots and fully nude during that time.

Bettie was not religious during that time. She found Jesus later on towards the end of her modeling career and disappeared from the modeling world.

Bettie got the most attention in comics because of the Rocketeer his Betty character is based on her. Disney when they did the movie didn't want Bettie associated with the movie and changed the character to Jenny.

Between Dave Stevens drawings and Disney's Movie and Greg Theakston's The Bettie Pages is what brought Bettie back into the fold in the late 80's and early 90's everyone then started writing and looking for her again.

Although I don't believe in the "death in threes" thing----I thought
Paul Benedict's death was recent enough to count for this example you're
looking for----or is the "threes" rule only in synch when the celebs have
some kind of connection i.e. eras of popularity?

Plenty of deceased celebrities among that 2008 list...

...and that's just for the month of December.

I think the "death in threes" only works if the celebs die within a few days
of each other----although I don't give it acknowledgement personally.

I am now searching for a link to the list of all the people that
lived through all of 2008 so far.

Compared to Mike and Meule, I'm practically a rookie.
