    Bettie Page Dies

LOS ANGELES – Bettie Page, a 1950s pinup model who helped set the stage for the 1960s sexual revolution, has died. She was 85.

Her agent Mark Roesler says Page died Thursday night at a Los Angeles hospital after suffering a heart attack nine days ago. He says she never regained consciousness.

Page attracted national attention with magazine photographs of her sensuous figure in bikinis and see-through lingerie that were quickly tacked up on walls across the country. Her photos included a centerfold in the January 1955 issue of then-fledgling Playboy magazine, as well as controversial sadomasochistic poses.

Roesler says Page had been hospitalized for three weeks with pneumonia and was about to be released when she suffered the heart attack Dec. 2.

    RIP Bettie!

I heard an interview with her a few years ago.

Later on in life she would never let anyone photograph her because she wanted to stay young in everyones mind forever.

    It worked.

How sad..I hadn't heard this. I love Bettie, have a nice little collection of books, etc. My wife actually liked Bettie as well and picked up a few pieces for me.
She had an amazing but tough life. God rest you, Ms. Page.

I didn't even realize she was still alive until about 5 years ago. I thought she had died young or been murdered or disappeared or something. I think I heard a rumor once.
When I found out she was alive I always wondered what she looked like older. Too bad no pics. Wouldn't matter. She's still gorgeous younger. I'm just naturally curious.

Oh man, what a bummer...big fan here.

Has anyone seen her all-nude film footage?

Awesome...what a body...a real body...none of this current wave of anorexic bodies and plastic boobies we have now in media.

She had a beautiful face as well.

As an illustrator who Illustrated her so many times and helped out Greg Theakston with his Bettie Pages magazine and annual in the late 80's early 90's. i am really grief stricken. Kind of a Sucky year when the great Dave Stevens and Bettie pass away........

Hector posted what is probably the most iconic Bettie image.

I'm surprised to see the recent photo of Bettie , I've never come across a recent photo. It was not too bad for an 80 year old woman. From all the secrecy surrounding her being viewed as an old woman, I really kinda of expected worse.

Instead she looks happy, which is nice. She deserved to be happy.

That last picture of her was taken at the Playboy mansion...she and Hugh Hefner remained life-long friends.

Bettie Page was one of the most photogenic women ever...I love her pinups, and will always remain a fan.

                            RIP gorgeous.
