Superman movie franchise gets a reboot. It's official.

You're spot on Chris with the "dark" thoughts...to me the bright colours of all the DC universe characters signify the boldness of them....that's why Batman is so different...and can be "Dark". A dark Superman would be wrong...Supes 3 got it spot on with the split supes and that's how dark it should go...no further...even the death of superman was still a brash, bold and no hiding in shadows story.
I hope that if they do reboot the supes movies they take that into account and also go with a different villain other than Lex....Braniac would be good as would Bizzaro, Darkseid(if they wanted "dark"), Ultra-Humanite or even Doomsday.
I'm hoping they go with Ultra-Humanite....lets face it anyone other than Lex...I don't want him even in the background...too few films...too much Lex

Mr. Robinov sounds like another corporate suit that has no idea what his company's characters are all about...."dark" works for Batman but Superman is the exact opposite of "dark". Supes is supposed to be the shining beacon of the DC Universe. Truth, Justice and the American Way is apparently out of style though and lost on a modern audience.

How dark can you be when you're invulnerable?!?!?! It'll be like a "My Chemical Romance" album. "Oh, we're young and pretty but OOOOHHHHH so alienated!!!"

It's the 90's again! "Wolverine is SOOOOO KEWELLLL!!!!! So a WHOLE TEAM of him would be KEWELLLER!" Not realizing that the character only works when there are different characters to play off of.

Everyone agrees, Christopher Reeves version of Superman has become the definitive model.

Let's play off that.
The new Supes will be like Reeves.
Story........
I don't wanna see nothing too deep.
I don't want no Superbabies.....
I don't want no big Superman revelations.

All I want is a nice 2 hour Superman romp to entertain me in a light-hearted Superman way.

Making Supes dark is like making Mr Rogers dark.
Yea, you could do it ... but why ?

Leave the deep dark stuff to Batman.

Well, I liked Superman Returns. It did of course, suffer from the "re-introduction"...even though it wasn't an Origin Story...It still WAS!

I liked Brandon Routh as Supes...He reminded Me of Reeve....but If They're going to pull a "HULK"...and reboot.....then I see this as a chance to snag Tom Welling for SUPES!! Smallville MUST be on it's last Season!

yeah brainiac would be cool to see but they already made him in a movie its called "The Terminator". dc should give up on sups and make a movie based on the forth world. i mean darkseid, orion, mister miracle it's so different it might work.

Y'know.... if they just did a story where a bad guy showed up, and Supes fights him.... y'know... like the COMIC, when people used to read it.... All the dark, and gritty, and trying to put a whole back story on the character; really detracts from a superhero. They're NOT that complicated! A superhero is about the action and the bad guy MORE than the hero. The hero is immutable, immobile, unfailing and unchanging.

So WHY do these clowns feel the need to change them every movie? And subsequently redo the origin almost every movie? Holee Smokes folks; I think we know who Superman is by now....

Wrong, wrong WRONG! "Depth" implies stuff below the surface. Superheroes don't have this. "Batman is a tortured soul constantly looking to avenge the death of his parents." Fair enough, but that's not depth. There isn't too much you can do with that. There isn't too much you can ADD to that. It just IS, and that's fine. The real interesting bits are the juxtaposition of those traits against the setting, the situation and the bad guy. Trying to "real" it up usually fails, and looks incredibly silly. Mostly 'cos you then have to deal with all the superheroisms that were perfectly fine a genre ago. It's not a dark, gritty world if a pair of glasses can hide your identity from the greatest criminal masterminds on the planet.

The whole "realistic superhero" and "dark gritty" things have always felt like fan stroking for 40 year old superhero fans who NEED some sort of "deeper" rationale to explain why they're still reading funnybooks. Mostly for themselves, it always seemed.

Damned near every superhero comic from the 90's was a team of Wolverine wannabes. There's an Image book; I believe an issue of PITT, in which every line of dialogue is a permutation of "I'M ANGRY!!!"

My opinion, if 1 person dies in a Superman movie, Superman (the man who can do ANYTHING) failed.

The threat of death and impending doom is fine.
Just no real deaths.

Remember Superman-4 ?
When Lex was escaping from prison.
The guards were trapped in the Caddy and run off a huge cliff.
Did they die ?
Nope, and we were even shown they didn't--- with just messed up hair and WA WA music.
To me, that was perfect.
Hoakey yes, but still perfect for a Superman movie.

just because SR wasn't The Dark "Titanic II" Knight in terms of box office
you don't say a 200 mil movie "underperformed" unless you're just
LOOKING to ditch the franchise early on and need an excuse.

Anyways SR tried to bite off more than it could chew---yet, in my opinion
they were very sucessful---but, admittedly----it's a tough sell
because of the movies' plain old strange "reboot/quasi-origin/tribute" way

Yeah----the idea of dumping Routh and Singer (and Spacey for future films)
is a stupid, stupid idea...

This great team was JUST getting started following an admittedly odd start.
