Although Singer may not want to sign on for a reboot to his reboot/tribute, would it be that bad to keep Routh and Spacey just to have some sort of synergistic transition between the recent films. Better than asking everyone to start from scratch. Although the WB says Superman Returns underperformed it wasn't universally panned like Ang Lee's Hulk (which NEEDED a complete reboot makeover). Although if they continued with Routh I wouldn't necessarily want to see his Superman run into Spacey's Luthor at every turn. Maybe a cameo? But they'd definitely have to dump Bosworth as Lois and killing off the kid is a no-brainer. But then again, somebody had "no-brains" in the first place to even allow that part of the storyline.

Good point....even if Mark Miller & His "un-named" Director take over...there's no reason to completely dump Brandon Routh & Kevin Spacey.

I liked Routh. I thought he did fine. I wouldn't mind seeing Tom Welling take over. They could just have him be Superman, and not directly address Smallville continuity. Brainiac could be played by Marsters, or not, since he could be an "upgrade" to the TV Brainiac, or again just not mention the Smallville stuff.

Rosenbaum is the best Lex ever, so it would be awesome to see him get to go completely evil on the big screen. But we need another villain, cuz the Supes/Lex dance has been done to death on the big screen.

Edited to add, that if the rumors are true, Tom Welling NEVER wants to don the suit. Of course if WB backed a truck full of money up to his door, maybe he'd reconsider...

That's why I don't watch Smallville. I'm sorry, but my Superman/boy must wear the red, yellow and blue suit. Otherwise it's not Superman/boy; it's High School Musical or Dawson's Creek/Crap.

Oh and there was COLOR in Superman Returns. Only in the TV ads had his suit colors red, yellow, and blue. Then muted down in the movie. What was missing in the movie was a CGI of Chris Reeve's face over Routh. Then we could have had a new Superman movie and the actor could smile. Routh is the only Superman actor to never smile in a movie or series. These fools really missed the boat. Well it was their version, so I guess that worked out for them.

My question is: Just how many times are we going to see SUPERMAN "reinvented" (and BATMAN for that matter...)

These "superhero films" seem to be the rage these days, but why keep grinding out new incarnations of the same old titles?

I'm not even a super-hero follower and I think there needs to be "new blood" in the super-hero films...

^^ Its all name recognition. Batman is a household name, Green Lantern, notsomuch. After what Schumacher did to Batman, they had to reboot.

I liked Superman Returns, too, but a reboot makes sense. The first painted them into the son corner. I want to see a great action/adventure Supes.

Superman Returns wasn't too bad. I was very excited about it after seeing it twice, but the more I've watched it, the more I've realized its fatal flaw... it's BORING.

In terms of characters, I hated Lois (she should not look like she just graduated high school) and hated the kid, but I did like James Marsters' character. I didn't think Spacey was all that great, but I'm tired of Lex Luthor's lousy movie interpretation. There is no reason in the world Lex would surround himself with incompetents and thugs. He's a genius; he should have a lab where he builds huge killer robots and uses technology to its fullest, but you'd hardly know how smart he is by watching the Superman movies.

The animated series portrayal of him is much, much more compelling.

The script was bad, too. It fell apart after the airplane crash scene, IMO; that set a tone the rest of the film just never lived up to. I want to watch a Superman movie, not something that would be a feature presentation on the Lifetime network. (For those of you not in the U.S., Lifetime is a women's network that shows "disease of the week" type movies, relationship movies and movies about women escaping their abusive husbands, and they all star Valerie Bertinelli.)

Stop beating me over the head with the Superman/Jesus references. I get it. Superman's like Jesus because he returned, he watches over us constantly, and he lifted a giant continent and threw it into space! (Jesus did that in a little known book of the Bible called Steve.)

The last fifteen minutes where Superman falls to earth probably could have been cut out. What was the point of that?

What's particularly galling: How many hundreds or thousands of Superman stories have been published over the years? Surely there are at least a few dozen worthy of being adapted, yet every time we get some lame scriptwriter who probably never even picked up a Superman comic intent on making his name by doing some terrible revamp of an icon that's worked well for 80 years without it and will go on long after.

Good point Steve. The airplane rescue scene is awesome, and its true the rest of the movie didn't live up to the potential of that scene.

You're right about the name recognition thing, but the other superheroes could "do it" too if given the right idea(s)... They could start up new film franchises if they give the others a shot...

I'll even get the ball rolling for them: Wonder-Woman starring Jessica Alba.

With the right film though, anyone can become a household name....look at Iron Man, probably Marvel's equivalent to Green Lantern as far as where he stands with the big guns. Not known too much out of comic book circles before, but he's now a mainstream name thanks to a kickass movie.

You are so right, Steve, thanks for posting that...but you know Lex is smart because he has a big fancy library-just like he did in the 78 movie.
