what the writer has to say (after a rather awkward exchange at SDCC)

Jeremy Konrad writes, Before the screening of The Killing Joke tonight, a majority of the voice cast, including Kevin Conroy, Ray Wise, and Tara Strong.

Saw this this afternoon at home. No way was I going to pay the local cinema what they were charging to see it. I will be buying on blu ray though on the day of release (costing less than the cinema ticket). Found the first quarter a little pointless and not quite sure how to feel about the Bat romance. That aside though, once that was out of the way I thoroughly enjoyed it. Tons of Easter eggs in there.

Take a comic that is admittedly iconic, but problematic for its objectification of Batgirl. Then, instead of building her as a more three-dimensional character with her own female agency, add in a creepy relationship that reduces her to a sexual object to the male hero. It sounds almost like they were actively trying to make it worse...

Wow... Is there anything Warner Bros won't turn into a rated R feature? It sure seems as if there is a desire to drive the comics division into a very adult driven market. To me, it gives them less dimension and exploits them in the wrong way for kids. Now I REALLY don't want to hear anyone complain about the Schumacher nipples anymore. That almost seems innocent by comparison.

Unfortunately, unlike Batman and Robin, Batgirl really wasn't given a solid motivation in her debut story in 1967, and every iteration either in the comics or media has been scrambling to come up with a reason for her existence ever since.

IMO - it's because he's a "Man" who mentors a "Boy" and she's a "Girl". It feels manipulative, which I'm guessing is why they have Babs the instigator instead of simply having the relationship in existence.

    I blame Batwoman...

Yep. WB was smart to roll that out early. The volume of news seems to help muffle the reaction.

^Well, I already bought my tickets, so I'll see how this works out.

I have never been a fan of the Bruce/Barbara romance, but their flirtation existed on the TV show before the Dick/Babs flirtation grew into romance on BTAS. I really disliked the idea that Bruce and Babs had a romance post TNBA, but apparently Bruce Timm is a fan of it.

really? Batgirl getting it on with Batman? Sorta creepy and demeaning to the character that she's just into crime fighting for the nookie?

You might change your minds once you've read what they've done to Batgirl (besides what the Joker does to her)
The Killing Joke is a 30-year-old Batman graphic novel that goes to ugly places, especially in what it does Batgirl. And when folks expressed anger at
