Aunt Harriet kind of eliminated herself, she was too ill for most of season 3. Dozier wanted to fire her earlier, but the cast lobbied for her to stay.

Chandell? Highest-rated Batman66 episodes, go figure.

I recently heard plans were being discussed to either eliminate Robin altogether for season 4, and make it just Batman and Batgirl, or rotate between the two sidekicks. I had never heard this before.

a season (4) would have been interesting, although at that time the U.S. was in deep with the Vietnam war
and the hippie movement, along with racial tension, not sure how the writers of the Batman series would have been
able to avoid some episode element regarding that? splitting up Batman and Robin probably wouldn't of worked
IMO and keeping Batgirl would have been fine, but the story lines would most likely been fair at best, I think they were
just running out of story lines, the ratings would have gone down, so it probably was best the show ended when
it did. Star Trek started and ended about the sametime the Batman series did, coincidence? maybe but I did wish
Star Trek went at least one more season, after all it was a (5) year mission.

I'm not sure I could have stomached a 4th season, if it had continued like the 3rd... It would have been interesting, though to see how the series might have developed if it had switched in season four from ABC to NBC as rumored. Usually those network shifts result in drastic reformatting and not for the better.

How could anyone hate sweet old Madge Blake?

No, I mean, I get it, but I find her incredibly charming and wonderful.

Aunt Harriet quickly faded from the comics, too: She appeared regularly from 1964-68.

wait, she was in the comics? I thought she was solely a TV show character? I don't recall ever seeing her in a comic book, unless you mean the current comics based on the show?

She was in the regular comics. I've always assumed she was introduced by Schwartz after he jettisoned the original Batwoman & Batgirl to, er, balance out the household. Alfred had been killed off and transformed into the villain The Outsider at the time.

Aunt Harriet debuted in the issue Alfred died (Detective #328). Incoming editor Julius Schwartz apparently wanted to squash those long-running, Wertham-fueled rumors about Bruce and Dick, by throwing a matronly woman into the mix.

As for ditching Robin, I think the producers underestimated the character's appeal. I would have revolted, had I been born by 1968, for sure. I guess the idea stemmed from Ward being pretty difficult to work with in Season 2, when his meteoric rise to fame went to his head. I understand by Season 3 a lot of that had died down, though.

West and Ward couldn't stand each other at this point too.. Both were being pretty petty. not leaving trailers and stuff

^Yep. That was in Season 2, I believe. I think their relationship improved after the whole incident where the producers had Vincent Price assault Ward with eggs, but I'm sure there were still some bruised egos.

Ever notice the end credits on Season 3? Adam West's name is HUGE and dwarfs all the other cast's names.

Nora Clavicle episode is the absolute worst. The useless women taking over, the human knot and the ending at the "docks" are just so bad. That waterfront set was horrible. It makes Krofft's Land of the Lost look like Jurassic Park.

I do remember thinking the human knot was a budgetary thing and that I wanted to be in one with Yvonne Craig.
