always been Batman for me. maybe because I grew up in the 70's and batman was all over in syndication. I think though that he just had the coolest gadgets and the coolest look. he's just badass, no one can beat him in the long run. and as others have said he has the best rogues gallery. joker is my favorite villain of them all. I am not crazy about where DC has taken things with all this new 52 crap but i still love the characters.Comment

Green Lantern and Superman have always been my favorites, followed by Batman, Spider-man, the Fantastic Four and Captain America.
One of the first comics I remember getting was a Flash comic with GL as the backup. My mom bought it for me after Wednesday night church at a convenience store. My dad was out of town on business and she read me the GL story before bed. She said she liked GL as a kid, but she remember the Golden Age GL. I loved that he could fly and make stuff with the ring, but it started with GL being a favorite of my mom's. When I started buying back issues, GL was the first silver-age run that I completed. I bought a ragged copy of Showcase 22 after saving most of the summer before my junior year in high school.
Superman the movie came out when I was really getting into collecting and could buy silver-age issues really cheap at regional monthly flea market. Superman 140-149 remains a favorite run of issues.
As for Batman and Spider-Man, well, the two are comics best and most versatile characters, even if they aren't at the top of my favorites list. Neal Adams and Jim Aparo's work on Batman just made the character for me. Spidey is great. He has incredible super powers but he also is the underdog. The concept shouldn't work, but it does so well.
My appreciation for the FF and Spidey, too, came for the paperbacks that reprinted the early issues of the titles. I liked those stories so much better than ones in the current comics of the mid 70s.
Cap is great because despite the super serum, it's his heart that makes him a hero. I've always loved the 1940s era, so the fact that he had adventures set during that period in some reprints and was a man out of his time, just appealed to me.Last edited by madmarva; Jul 6, '13, 1:34 PM.Comment

Superman is the only superhero ever defined as the guy always having to "do the right thing" and Joker is the only villain who is defined by a guy who has to "do the WRONG thing".
That's why THEY are the best in their respective genres. ("superhero" and "supervillain")"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment
