Who's your all-time favorite superhero, and why?

I am sure this has been done before, and I am sure some of you wear yours on your sleeves.

But there are plenty of you, where I just don't know.

Now, some of you already know my favorite, and I will chime in in due time, but I want to hear from you guys first!

Who, is your favorite, and why?

Not a hero, but Dr. Doom in the original Kirby/Lee run is easily my favourite superhero character.

I don't know if I can effectively sum it up, but I love the contradictions of his character in those books. He's a bit like Bugs Bunny, with an infinite bag of reality warping tricks, but mixed with Elmer Fudd, who's always destined for failure. There's probably some profound statement about power and humanity in there, but honestly I just find him wildly entertaining.

Probably Superman. He just sort of epitomizes heroics and is fairly altruistic. He's a template for heroes that are more than a vigilante that trained a lot with a gun or took Tae Kwon Do for 15 years. I realize that's not a very interesting choice, but when I hear the term superhero, he's who I think of.

              X-Men's Nightcrawler.
As a kid, I identified with him the most. Blue skin, a tail...

He used his skills instead of brute super power, and I liked that. And I imagined myself teleporting into comic book stores at night and picking anything I wanted!

Batman. Or somedays it's Dick Grayson/Robin/Nightwing, but mostly it's Batman. I think his visuals are the primary reason, then the simple but poignant origin, the gadgets, the best villains, the supporting cast...Batman has such rich mythos. It's no wonder he's the go-to-guy for outside media and toys and merchandise.

It's a hard choice to knock, he's quintessential.

Spiderman. When that cartoon aired back in '67 it changed me forever. It introduced me to superheroes, art, and the desire to want to explore the worlds of other heroes. I've since moved on from the comics, but Spiderman remains timeless for me. Lots of warm memories.

as a kid Superman & Batman were equal...

now i'd probably have to say Wolverine or Batman...while I still love Superman and know he's the best hands down..I kind of like the Human side of Batman and that he doesn't need super powers to get **** done

I'll go a little further and break it down into three categories:

                        Favorite Super-Hero

From the DC Universe, I'd likely have to say Batman simply due to the fact that, at heart, he's a normal, if exceptionally well-trained, schmo without the benefits of super-powers who chooses to right the wrongs around him he sees, a believer in justice over law, trying to ensure that those who do wrong eventually get what's coming to them.

From the Marvel Universe, I've always been really in love with (old-school) Iron Man, perhaps because he's the first comic book character I ever experienced thanks to my older brother. I really like sixties and seventies Iron Man before he got all funky and manga because he was always in some type of peril, but ultimately found a ingenious way to save himself! What other hero can say they can save themselves with the lighter in a car? Classic Lee/Kirby THOR would be a close second because his adventures were always so frikkin' EPIC!!

                        Favorite Super-Heroine

DC Universe: Wonder Woman. That's a no-brainer really. She's strong, gorgeous, fights for what's right and has an invisible jet, to boot! What's not to love?

Marvel: Phoenix/Dark Phoenix, hands down, my favorite female comic character from ANY universe. Why? Because her powers are completely awesome (she could likely take down Thor, Superman, Gladiator and The Hulk and not even break a sweat), and she represents both the best of humanity (Phoenix) and the absolute worst of humanity (Dark Phoenix) all in one really attractive, ginger package!
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Two DC and three Marvel superheroes:

                          1. Superman...god-like being, yet humbles himself to serve mankind, nothing more heroic
                          2. Spider- Man...angsty and nerdy teenager, cool powers, fights using humor
                          3. Wolverine...he's a bad, bad, bad dude
                          4. Batman...brooding and dark, kicks arse with no superpowers
                          5. Silver Surfer...the only one on this list who can defeat Superman (Ok, Ok, calm down, you Bat fanatics, but your Batty is missing his kryptonite ring, lol), for the man of steel has to be near the yellow sun to remain powerful, while the Surfer has almost unlimited power through and beyond the stars, the power cosmic is at his domain, yet he's a true romantic forever trying to relieve that long lost love.

Definitely Curt Swan's version, but I'm really fond of how both Jerry Ordway and Gary Frank depicted him. I like Ordway's take on Batman, too--Adventures of Superman #440 is one of my favorite all-time comics because of this.
