^Gustav DeCobra!!! Mike Grell drew him EXACTLY like Christopher Lee (he even referenced photos of Lee as Dracula) but Julie Schwartz spotted the swipe and made him change it. He STILL looks a lot like Lee. Great story, I read it every Halloween.

Yes, he does look like C. Lee! I think that scarier, animal-like vampire characterization hit me hard as a kid after only seeing the earlier, suave Lugosi version. I had yet to experience Hammer movies or the earlier horror comics.

Loved that gritty, dark vibe Batman had in the 1970s.

^Yes, and many DC comics of the early 70s had some kind of supernatural vibe to them. This felt like a callback to those stories of just a few years before. The ending was pretty novel for the old vampire tropes too.

The earliest were bugs bunny comics. Superboy and the LSH 201, Action Comics 433 and Flash 226 are the oldest super hero books. Still have them. All from 1974 so I guess that's the year I came to hero comics. Julius Schwartz autographed the Action. He didn't want to sign the cover because he didn't draw it. I countered that he work on the whole book and he reluctantly signed there.
